Sorry about all the preceeding guff, but I thought this 'No' linked in
perfectly with both my question and the thread name, so selfishly
I took advantage of it. At least that's my story. The thread is guff.

If the thread is guff, why the 30 to 23 Yes vote in favour of the swap?

:blah

The thread is guff because the swap simply will not happen.
Why would they take Richo? Why would they let Judd go?

Unreal.  ::)  We go through this every year.  Richo IS Richmond.  He's not going anywhere. End of story

Well said Rosy. Have those even contemplating such a move, know that Richo has loyalty emblazoned on his forehead.

It's about the colours not the names.

and once again look at the vote; 30 to 23 in favour of the trade.

It's about fantasies and the vote means nothing.  We could have a 100 to zero vote in favour of trading Morro for Cousins too but, same as Richo for Judd, it's never going to happen.

Hypothetical I know, but...

Would you do the trade if you knew Judd was going to help us make the Finals next year and win us a flag.

Would Richo be untouchable at the cost of a flag next year?

Would you put player loyalty before a Flag?

Give a serious answer rather than the derision that is too easy a cop out.

Too hypothetical for me. Pass. I'll discuss it when the trade is a real option. :asleep

Try the same question on the West Coast forum and see who would want the trade. My guess would be close to zero.

Cheers

I've thought about this answer for several days now, and have absorbed everyone's opinion.

I've come to the conlcusion that losing Richo for Judd will weaken our forward line, and definelty strengthen our midfield. However, if the RFC had a bloody CHF to rely on, I would without hesitation swap the two.

As the old cliche goes, no individual is bigger than any club, no matter how big the players heart is. Let's remember, that 90% of football is played above the shoulders, and not with the heart.

The silence was deafening.

Of course the trade is fanciful. Of course it is never going to happen.

But...

Nobody yet has said they would not swap Richo for a Flag. Forget the Judd vs Richo aspect, is the individual greater than the club?

It is a discussion worth having. One of the few, to my knowledge, that examines our basic beliefs.

I would like those that attacked the post with comments such as "fanciful" or "guff" or "ridiculous" or "silly" or "sheer lunacy" or "we have a late nomination for Tool of the Year......" or "absurd" or "crap like this" to answer the question honestly.

Would you swap Richo for a Flag?

This is bordering on the augumentative method of reifying - where one takes
as a concrete fact that swapping a Judd for a Richo would in fact give us a flag.

No one knows the answer to that.

The question that should first be asked - is 'Would swapping Judd and Richo give
us a flag?'. Once that is answered, the actual question asked
above can be contemplated.
