I have been thinking a bit about Richo this year this is the 3rd time in his career he has playe every game. - A pretty good effort.

What I have been wonderigng though is what we would have done if Richo went down with injury this season?

I don't believe we would have had any replacement for him and none really evident at the moment. IN fact it seems like we have never recruited to try and give Richo help.....its been like "OK we have richo in the forward line so lets concerntrate on all the other positions."

I think our year would have been a lot worse if we had lost Richo for say 5 games this year (which is pretty usual!)

What I suppose I am saying is that I think Richo actually masked our forward problems - i.e. lack of a real forward line. Just one more area to be concerned about...

This tells a story
matches Goals
Richo 22 65
Brown 10 34
Pett 22 31
Krak 20 23
Simmonds 22 19
Stafford 15 16
Lids 22 14

Thanks God you didn't go down Richo.............

Re: Richo - his year

True. How true.

10 x leading goal kicker in what 11 seasons.......Unbelievable effort but underlines how poor we have been in relying too much on Richo and being too one dimensional. This year though i believed it would have been a different matter as Browny was on fire and the triangle was in force. We need to recruit another forward and let Jay play FF.

Speaking of Jay,,,,,,very good game wasnt it. I thought some of his touches and clearnaces were very god and his little touches and throwing of his body was also something he can build his confidence for next year.

Watch out. He is going to have a 'Sppppppppeciaaaaaaaaaaaalllll year next year"

Yeah Shultz was promising yesterday.

For some reason, I'm extremely confident when he's got the ball.

He defended really well also yesterday. Hopefully he'll be one of those talls we've never had that can go back or forward.

Jay was easily one of our best yesterday, it was actually good to see him with the ball in his hands coming out of defence he looked like he knew what he was going to do with it everytime and his disposal was excellent. Richo was great once again and he had a bit more support, if Browny didn't go down and played a full season he would've nearly been the coleman medalist he was in such good form. Another forty goals in the second half would've been a huge bonus.

Just thinking - Browny was averaging nearly 3.5 goals a game........never finsihed a game in 2005 with less than 2 goals.

Does anyone think another 41 goals would have helped this year???????

Although he was playing extremely well, so was everyone else in the first 10 games.

Although he's arguably our best player, I would have been surprised if he kept that form up all year.

hijinx - I know its a bit of a long bow - but these two guys (Browny and Richo) kicked

33% of all our goals for the year!!!!!

To state the bleeding obvious once again we desperately need a third option in the forward line.
Although I like Jay's game out of defence yesterday, I still see him primarily as a forward. I was extremely encouraged by his performance in the last quarter against the Dawks the week before.
He seems to have put some muscle on in the gym and is starting to bust a few packs. It's great to see him do well forward and back.
Finally, FINALLY we may be developing a KPP who can play at either end of the ground.
I'd still like to see us recruit another mid sized marking forward.

richo is OUR forward line
thats one thing we need next year, 2 other players to help him out
thx god for Richo

Don't you mean 1 more thing we need for next year..........

He and Brown are a good combo to start a forward line around especially if we can get Tamblling running and crumbing - but if either one of these go down (especially the big fellow) we will have a very tough season!

Browny is being extremely underrated if you ask me. Early in the year i didn't think richo was playing that good, just going about business without taking control of a game like browny was. The thing about browny is his skills bring other people into the game. Precision passing inside 50 is a rare talent!
Ok just to get things straight, are you still considering browny in the side if richo went down?
Coz alot of sides would struggle if their 2 leading goal kickers went down!
But to replace richo the options would be:
Schulz
Staff
Simmo
Patto
Hall

I rate Ray Hall alot higher than i probably should. But for a guy his size his mobility is sensational, although he is clumbsy below his knees. His a strong mark and never gives up. Also has held his own in the different roles he has been handed in his career. For a guy who is only 25, his played KPP both forward and back and in the ruck, also tried running off a wing!

I would asume that if Richo went down "someone" would've stepped up kicked some goals. Whether that be Jay or Staff or Rory(hahaha). A team doesnt kick zero goals because their main player is out. BTW Browny would have own us at least 2 extra games ie WCE & Geelong. Then we would have been in the finals and I would have been...oww get your hand of it Tim!

Good post TAS. When Brown went down so did our season, we missed him more than we would any other player of our list. Not underated by me that's for sure.
If Richo had have gone down? It wold have been very interesting to see how our forward line functioned(eg the lineup you suggested). Not taking anything away from Richo he had a terrific season and fought hard against weight of numbers again.

If Richo went down it would have been a blessing in disguise because TW would've had no other option but to play Schulz at FF every week and by now he could've developed into a better player.

I remember a lot of times in the past where more players contributed to kicking goals when Richo was out injured, but because of this continous "kick it to Richo" disease in our forward line we are very far behind in matching with other teams forward lines.

As good as Richo is and as much as we all love him i have never seen a fwd isolate himself from his team mates yet remain surrounded by opposition backmen so often - why is that?
because he leads too early and to the wrong spot - if we kick it to him he is out of position, if we dont he cracks it and when browny went down there was not much else
Richo leading out left Browny 1 on 1 and Browny was smart enough & good enough to win out - we needed another med/small that could hang back and let richo be the decoy and take defenders out

The other interesting point raised, look at the 3rd and 4th highest goal kickers at the Club. Pettifer and Kraks. 2 players that Pre Enders keep bagging and saying get rid of them. Wonder who would get those goals if they werent there ?

Richardson is a legend. Poor delivery and double - triple teamed every game. He still manages to kick the goals.

In regards to my favorite, Mr Brown, once he went down, so did our hopes of playing finals footy. Our no 1 player. Not only was he our leading goal kicker when he got injured, he was also our 3rd highest possession getter at the time averaging 20.5 possessions a game.

Brown and Richardson were working very well together and gave other teams something to think about in not having their two best defenders on Richardson.

Stop it nonwasher. Everyone knows that the 3rd and 4th best goal kickers should be getting 60 goals a season. Its just unacceptable that ours are the same as all the other clubs.

can u give me a team where the 4th best goal kicker has 60 goals a season??i dont think so.

Sarcasm tigerchick. There are many on this site who think 31 and 23 goals are not good returns for your 3rd and 4th forward.
