What makes you believe it was Bowden? he was certainly in favour all last year, when the issue was raised. If you remember last year Caroline wilson was asked by Wayne Carey to back it up, and she made some feeble excuse about Kane Johnson mentioning something 3 months beforehand about not being happy. It was something about the senior players hearing how great the future was going to be and them wanting success then and there, and being sick and tired of the "future" talk.

Sounded to me like she was drawing a very long conclusion when she wrote the article.

Agree General. After being challenged by Wayne Carey she quoted Kane Johnson but Kane Johnson said that she had spoken to Caro before the 2011 saga. Carey also challenged her on this and her reply was that she believed the feelings still held despite Johnson's denial.

She had a fair crack at March too - some of it with justification.

Richo proved she published a mistruth and she had the arrogance to blatantly believe her source over someone who actually knows the truth - then proceed to insinuate Richo is a liar!

This is my biggest issue with people defending journalists. Journalists dont care about anything except selling papers and protecting their "sources". Once something is made public its there forever, no retraction (caro hasnt even retracted her statement) will make a difference. Once the fire is lit, it will run its course.

Spot on. Thought Richo made the best point, that he had to put up with a lot of crap and questioning from everyone he met because of this type of article. This is then distracting to any player that would be effected and has the potential to interfere with onfield performance. The classic is questioning players about if they are going to retire at the end of the year. Once you ask the question, it forces the player to think about it...

Dunno if he did really. He said that Wallace discussed the press release with the players before it went out, that they had no problems with it, and that there was no senior player meeting after the release where players weren't happy.

All that's not to say that one or more senior players weren't happy with the 2011 plan but juts didn't let on to Wallace or other players, and that word got out to Caro.

They could both be right.

The 2011 comments did what it was designed to do - make a certain amount of players retire at the end or midway through 2007. Freed up plenty of room. Gotta hand it to Wallace on that one ;-)
