Swan had a good year but it probably boiled down to Swan's lots of uncontested ball v Foley's lots of contested ball.

Yep. And without the midfield class around him to ease the pressure, his career is going one way at the moment.
Apparently the clubs nominate their own players for selection, and Collingwood didn't even put up Swan (or Heath Shaw), just Lockyer and Cloke.

I have no doubt if we'd been playing finals that he would've received rave reviews for his year, but he's in the bottom side and Brown and Pavlich pick themselves. History says if his form isn't clearly superior to a finals player like Mooney or Franklin or even a glamour boy like Riewoldt, he'll be passed over.
