East Thomastown will be able to beat the Tigers if Richo retired.

The man plays for the love of the jumper. If you told him you'd give him five bucks and lunch to keep playing he'd turn up. End of 2008 will probably see the end of Richo is my tip.

Only downside to him is he works too hard at times and cant get back to where he's needed. I wish the other 40 players on the list had similar problems.

He'd tell you to keep the five bucks, and he'd share the sandwich with a disadvantaged kid on the way home. Not just a great footballer, but a top quality human being.

Richo retire?
What a load a cr*p.
Didn't you see the game on Sunday? He and Foley were the only 2 having a genuine dip. Without these 2 the result would have been 200 points.
Sure, he's not what he once was. But he's still better than more than 3/4 of our list.

Richo is Richmond.
a few more like him , that play for the love of the club , and bleed YELLOW AND BLACK , might just help the club
out of this hole they have dug themselves into.

Richo probably doesn't need to retire for 6 years, we have no one else other than Joel Bowden who can go on the veterans list, Brown & Johnson haven't played for us long enough. We could keep him on the list and let him rest while we rebuild then bring him out on grand final day if we wanted to. He certainly deserves it.

6 years?

So are you going to push the wheelchair through/under the banner for him? :hihi

just a quick question... when richo does hang up the boots, do you think richmond will keep him on in some way shape or form.... if it be in the footy department or something like that?? im just curious because i would love this bloke to stay at the club forever.

he won't retire,he's on good money which will help ease the pain.

Richo could of gotten better money years ago...especially when Collingwood were sniffing around in the 90's.

Richo has definitely not stayed at Richmond for money reasons....and thats why we all love him so. 8)

Well said.

Not to mention the thousands of fans lining up for a picture, autograph, a few words. He has always given his time for them.

go Richo.

In over 30 years supporting this club, I can think of few other players that have given so much both on and off field than Matthew Richardson. When he retires, we should rightly acknowledge him as an absolute champion of the club.

He's played in a hugely unsuccessful era and has had to cope with continuous on and off field blunders that has left this club marooned in the bottom reaches of the ladder for all but two seasons of his 15 year career.

He's a very talented player (albeit with kicking for goal yips) that would have prospered within a better playing group. Yet he's stuck with Richmond probably because he loves the club as much as much as we do. Imagine what it would be like playing in the forward line of a team that has had the dismal skill level that Richmond has had over this time - horrendous. I absolutley believe he would have kicked 1000+ goals had he played with Essendon or any other successful side during this time.

It will be a sad day for this supporter when he retires, hence my belief that he should be made captain for his final couple of years as leader of what will be a very young and inexperienced side. He won't leave the game with a tiger flag which is a great shame. However hopefully he can be part of stimulating a new group of players to achive what he couldn't manage on his own.

We could keep him similar to the way Geelong kept Riccardi on their list, maybe play him off the bench as an impact player
There is no one else who will qualify for the veterans list, perhaps until Coughlan qualified in a few years but by then Bowden will be gone so there is still that 2nd veterans spot. Not sure if his body would hold out, but why not, he has put so much into the club that he deserves to be at the club when we are successfull.
