PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

This has been giving me the irrates the last couple of days so I thought I would share and see what you guys think.

To be fair, I should state I dislike Nixon.

Is this guy for real?

I don't doubt his knowledge and experience, but since a interview years ago I'll never forget where he got on the radio p!ssed and bagged his client (Carey), he lost me.

Yesterday when asked if it's possible another club (than Saints/Brisbane) could pick Cousins he stated "they would be wasting their time, they should be seriously considering there drug and alcohol policies first". I didn't read that as a best interests of Cousins recovery at all, but rather a "we will make a deal with who we want to make a deal with, don't get in the way". Considering if he goes it will be in a draft I would have thought he would be encouraging all clubs to consider/look at him I find that staggering.

The other thing I thought hurt Cousins is Nixon stating "we are not even sure if he will nominate tomorrow, he may decide he doesn't want to play. He's cleared his name now, everyone is just getting ahead of themselves, he might go and get a job and move on".

I've raised the theory before about it being very possible that is all Cousins has been doing, wether he has/is or not, is besides the point. Surely this hurt him.

If I was going to recruit a star player who has admitted to being a addict who has had some sensational issues and not played for a year. I would want to know he has been very driven to come back. Not, still haven't even made his mind up yet. That is ludicrous when he was within 24 hours of a deadline to declare for a draft this saturday (the comments were made yesterday morning).

We seem to be getting mixed signals from the Cousins camp which is understandable but their is no denying direct quotes. He has stated he wants to play and accepts the AFL conditions. Then Nixon says this and whilst not a direct quote, a close friend of Cousins has said he is devastated at St Kilda's rejection.

In my book Cousins has made some bad decisions in his career. Nixon has been just another. I'm not blaming Cousin's woes on Nixon but I think he has hurt him more than helped him on a PR level at least.

Could have been handled a lot better.
