Robert Walls

Disagree. I don't want commentators who can't recognise that the game has changed since they played. I want them to comment on the game as it is today. I find Walls interesting even though I only sometimes agree with what he has to say. I also like that he makes statements and predictions but cops it on the chin when he is wrong. There are far worse thena Walls having a microphone shoved under thier noses - Brereton, Olarenshaw and Russell spring to mind.

Different game back then - I did like the hard hitting of footballer's bodies at the contest

in the 20's footy used to be the closest thing to legal murder. Studs were sharpened before games, players would wear sharpened knuckle busters between their fingers and thuggery was just part and parcel, if you walked off the paddock in one piece you were considered a lucky man. Now thats the tough ;)

me too

Much prefer Walls as a commentator to most others. He says what he thinks, doesn't care if he offends others with his opinions and if he gets it wrong he will usually say so. Brain dead idiots like Brereton,Silvagni, Shaw, Christian,McGuire and the like don't compare. He was a sniper when he played for Carlton but gave as good as he got.

Don't mind Walls, but has the tendancy to state the bleeding obvious. Having said that, he knows his limitations and doest try to be eloquent and smart like Brereton does. The best thing about 7 getting the footy is we don't have to put up with Brereton's rubbish on the telly any more.

I like Silvagni as a commentator actually. Walls comes across as a bit of a wally sometimes but the call by Hudson, Brereton and Buckley (special comments and mindnumbing arrogance) last Sunday plunged footy commentary to new lows.

I'm sick of those whackers who bag Wallsy for being too harsh with his comments on the game. As a couple of people have already mentioned, he's the first to admit if he's got something wrong. I just wish there were more commentators like him. There are too many who sit back with their big fat contracts, and are loathe to say anything in case they say something.

Very sad.

Agree. I believe Erin has been pretty crook for a while. She fought hard. Most of us have seen this sort of thing close up. It's a sad reminder.

Good point. I have no issue bagging Walls (although I like him), but this was the wrong thread to attach to it. I still remember his wife at the Hall of Fame night, very touching moment to watch knowing what was happening in the background.
