Is Matthew Knights in the running for the Coburg gig? Should he be?

I think I may have missed something somewhere - has Collins thrown in the towel...?

Going to coach West Adelaide in the SANFL!! Was mentioned on the VFL Sunday.

I reckon he's more important than getting Judd.

That sux.

Mention was made of Ashley Prescott earlier in the forum.

He was a guest on ABC radio on Sunday morning and the question was asked of him whether he had any inclination to be an assistant coach of an AFL team. He stated that there was none at this foreseeable point in time however, given that his Claremont Tigers are in the Grand Final this weekend that would appear a reasonable answer.

Should they win, would he answer it differently?

Both Wiley and Prescott would be exceptional additions. Neither were truly gifted players but rathe rplayers who became good footballers through hard work and that seems to be the trademark of all great coaches. Players who had a work ethic and did what it took to become great players.
We need coaches and players with work ethics and a determination to do whatever it takes for success and then some. Seems we need more like many of the kids.

Wiley won 8 (yes 8) consecutive B&F's with Perth over 2 stints.

He also placed in the Richmond B&F during the 1980 premiership.

An absolute GUN player - hardly a struggler !

I know people over here in the west that rate Rob Wiley among the best players they've seen.

Dean Hart Northey is way wrong here, Wiley's was a brilliant footballer who's skills on either foot were sublime.
Talked about in WA circles as one of the west's greats.

Is it actually official or just hearsay TOO,

He works full-time for the VCA (cricket) doesnt he, & thats the reason he hasnt wanted a full-time football role.

For him to take an SANFL job on, there must be some greater motive, perhaps Sth Aus cricket have offered him a better job.

If indeed its even the case he's heading west.

Yes, that's right.

I thought there was another factor in the equation but couldn't put my finger on it.

I suppose we need more info first.

Andrew Jarman was on sen saying there was a rumour he will be coachin West Adelaide and another one was John Cahill at 67 to come out and coach again, i think it was Nth Adelaide.

Collins dropped a couple of bombshells on the players before sundays final, maybe thats why they played so *smile* in the first half.Probably took the boys half a game and a half time bake to switch on and play footy.

Please tell more about the bombshells. Sounds interesting.

DHN if you get a chance, there is the 1982 game of Richmond vs Essendon at the MCG if front of about 82,000. I think that it is on one of those Rex Hunt "Greatest Game" highlight video's.

Check out a few of Robbie's goals in the last 1/4, particularly the running left shoe goal from near the centre square. He kicks a few gems that day when the Tigers run riot.

Wiley was recruited to basically fill Bartlett's role as 1st rover, which he did with aplomb, so much so that he relagated Barry Rowlings to a HBF role after Barry won the 1979 B&F.

Wiley played a major role in some of mid-80's classic State of Origin games.

I think Rhett's book will be a valuable edition to your library.
