Papers have quoted Wallace as saying the likes of Rodan, Foley, Hyde, Newman & Krakouer will be getting more of a run through the middle as we look to improve our midfield depth and take some of the pressure off our reliance on Johnson Cogs & Tuck …
All very well: Foley aside, apart from Cogs & Pettifer, these guys are all we’ve got left to show for the 1999-2001 drafts - they’ve been around the club 4 or 5 years and it’s time to really contribute - deliver or depart …
But that’s not what struck me most about these 5 guys as a group – can you guess? – yeh it’s their size …
They are the 3 smallest guys on our list (Rodan-171, Krakouer-174, Foley-177) plus Newman (183 the same height as Meyer & Brown) and Hyde just 1cm more (184) - according to my 2005 AFL Season Guide.
They only weigh about 80 kilos each … in a side that averages around 188cm (Bowden, Deledio, JON, Tuck) in an era full of speculation about bigger & taller midfielders this is a veritable mosquito fleet - !
