Roll up, Roll up, guess 'The Trade' / Possible Otten deals?/ Ottens Trade [Merged]

Re: Ottens Trade

One is left to wonder if Otto would want to go if we hadn't had such a poor year. Lets say we exercised our right not to take on spud for a fifth year and got say eade. Well, we wouldn't have had Tony Jewell's comments, we would have had more members and attendance( at least early!) as the excitement from a new coach generates interest. It is fair to say that we wuld have been better coached and some duds may not have been picked up. All in all, we most likely would have had a better year and be 12 months into rebuilding and our future looking a little brighter for players considering staying.
sound fair enough? SO the big mistake in all of this was ensuring SPud stayed another year...Mr miller! So Miller has cost us Ottens!

Geez, is today the day of drawing the incredibly long bow or what. If you saw "Spotlight on Spud" the other night tef, it would appear spud very much enjoyed coaching otto. Two peas in a decaying pod it would seem. I have no animosity to either spud or Otto (and definitely not to Miller - unbelievable!) but there's a pretty good chance we will be proven to be better off without both of them.

Re: Ottens Trade

go teflon you certainly have a one track mind when it comes to miller , you just keep putting the boot in....

or have you conviently forgotten that he screwed us in his dealings in 01, has not performed even too his liking(he has stated this himself), you obviously feel that that his efforts this year should be rewarded oh well i must have been watching different games to you...

the guy is a pea heart, not once have i ever seen him stamp his authority on a match and he has had 7 seasons to do this, a man his size you would imagine would be able to influence the result of a game but he lacks the heart thats required to do that...

oh i forgot because miller didnt sack the dud its his fault, so i assume you would have expected miller to sign him too a contract worth 300k-400k a year, come on mate go read some of the posts there are a lot people out there that say its a shame he is going but we aint gonna put up with pea hearts like him no longer...

Re: Ottens Trade

I'm not saying that ottens is that good or deserves all that money... I agree with you. My Piint is would he have played better under a real coach? Our future would have looked brighter if spud was moved on when he should have been and he may have been prepared to saty for the less money if Miller hadn;t have ensured spud stayed.
I saw the spotlight show, so what? just because they enjoyed each other doesn't mean it actually helped his football. He probably enjoyed coahcing that gun recruit Fletcher as well! Enjoyment has nothing to do with it.

We want draft picks but If we get experienced players then:

1. no older than 24.
2. ruckmen and/or
3. Ruck rover, rover, centre or
4. Key Forwards (195 cms +)

Re: Ottens Trade

Let's move on and CLOSE some deals i.e. get Simmonds, get a top 10 pick, and an established player in the same ilk as a Wojinksi (spelling?). Together, with the likes of Jackson holding down CHB (ala Rivers), a young Raines, Moore, two gun draft picks, and some experienced players for the likes of Fiona & the Disco Biscuit King - not too mention a guy who can coach - we will be on track and moving forward in 2005.

Re: Ottens Trade

TEFLON you are not a reasonably intelligent Richmond supporter.

Actually you might be one or the other but you are definitely not both. And you may be neither.

Mr G. Miller is clearly the best thing at the club in years.

Re: Ottens Trade

The sooner Ottens goes to Geelong the better. He has been an overpaid underachiever & finally Richmond has said we will pay a player what they are worth. In the end he couldn't knock back the dollar. He will never reach his potential & Richmond deserve a pat on the back.Good ridence to players who do not want to be part of this club.

Re: Ottens Trade

If he goes then I can't see him going to Geelong or Sydney unless a 3 or 4 way deal is done. The draft picks that both teams hold or clearly inadequate and the type of player that we need they would not trade eg. Harley or Scarlett. There is nobody at Sydney that I would want.

The preferred trade would be to the Doggies, Hawthorn oe Adelaide with Adelaide being the most probable as they actually really really want him. A very unofficial source told me about 3 months ago that Adelaide had already offered him a long term deal at $500k per year. They could at least then give us their 1st and 2nd round picks or 1st and 3rd plus a player eg. Perrie, MacGregor.

Also I believe that I read somewhere that the reason that Simmonds had not signed with Freo is that he only got offered a 3 year deal when he wanted a 4 year one. If he wants a 4 year deal to come to Richmond then we should start looking elsewhere. Cain Ackland from Port maybe?????

Re: Ottens Trade

Geelong will do everything possible to get Ottens.I believe a deal will be done.Miller not keen to deal with Swans.

Re: Ottens Trade

Why not give Simmons a 5 year deal.
Every one of our duds is on five year terms.
I think the boot studder was given 10 years.

Re: Ottens Trade

Top 10 pick is a requirement, no exceptions
Add in a player like Wojincski and perhaps even another late pick if we really play hard ball
Perhaps we can throw in our 5th round pick and get a late 4th round pick as a substitute

A half back line of Wojinski, Bowden & Jackson would be more than servicable

If Adelaide offer us #7 and Reilly or McGregor id take it for sure.

Geelong id have to say Harley, Scarlett is almost ubntouchable. And with Wojicsnki and a pick, itd have to be in the top 10.

Could we get Bradshaw or Michael from Brisbane?

A caller on SEN this morning said that his mail was Ottens to Brisbane for Brennan and McLaren.

They need a replacement for Lynch. We need a ruckman.

J2R, that's definitely one of the better scenarios I've seen. The question would be do Geelong value Ottens enough to give up Wojcinski and Enright? Also, would we be any chance of getting Kelly from them in place of Wojcinski? He looked fantastic before the broken leg and has a couple of years of Wojcinski.

And Red, after his eye catching performance yesterday do you see JD Smiths stock rising? And if so, would you see him as a player to look at if we pickup pick 8-10 but Lewis, Eckermann and Monfires are gone? Or is this overstating his value too much?

Well Disco Inferno, I haven't watched the TAC Cup GF yet, but based on what I have seen of JD in the Nats and several Cannons games, selecting him top 10 would definitely be paying over the odds imo.

(On the subject of Kelly at Geelong, I doubt very much that they'd depart with him. He is very highly rated at Geelong and was having a good season before breaking his leg. Moloney, Wocjinski maybe...even Bartel at a stretch...but I don't think they'd let Kelly go imo.)

Saturday Night Fever: did you hear the interview late last night on SEN with JD Smith ? Kevin Sheahan was also interviewed and asked about JD.

JD said that he had a fairly reasonable year. He came across as a decent kid. He said that he had been told by Robert Hyde (coach of Calder) at the start of the year that he needed to improve upon his pace. He said that he spent a lot of time trying to improve his leg speed but was never going to be a quick running player. He said that he tries to make up for that by having endurance and getting to every contest and winning lots of clearances etc. and giving off to team mates.

JD said that not many AFL clubs had spoken to him.

Kevin Sheahan said that the fact that he was not in the Draft Camp attendees (he’s in the State Screenings which are a much watered down version of the Draft Camp), indicated that clubs probably have him on the periphery of their thinking. He said that his Grand Final efforts may have improved that rating. He seemed to indicate that if he was taken (at all) that it would be very late in the Draft.

Ottens to Geelong.

Richmond - Ottens - Geelong - Wojincski & 1st Round Pick or
Wojincski & Corey Enright - Richmond
