Roll up, Roll up, guess 'The Trade' / Possible Otten deals?/ Ottens Trade [Merged]

A post on BigFooty said that someone spoke to Greg Miler and he was very pleased with an offer that Hawthorn proposed to him.

Geelongs first pick is 16.  They will probably have to make another deal with another club to get a top 10 pick as GM and TW would be demanding this and a decent young player.  From their current list these players would be untradable IMO -

- Ablett, Chapman, Harley, Kelly, King, Ling, Milburn, Ricardi, Sanderson, Scarlett.

The players that they probably would throw into the trade and that we would be interested in are -

Bartel, Corey, Enright, Hunt, Johnson, Moloney, Wojcinski.

These are all decent players IMO, and are all young enough to fit into our rebuilding program.  Also i beleive Geelong can afford to lose one of them.

I probably rate Wojcinski the best of that lot.  Enright is also handy - he was second in Geelongs b/f last year but had some unfortunate injuries this year.  Fully fit he would be a very handy player in the tallish midfielder role.

Enright and Wojcinski are 23 and 24 respectively, which makes me lean toward either Moloney who is 20, or Hunt who is 22.

Moloney would add some pace to our midfield, while Hunt would take over Chaffey's role. Seeing a left footer coming off half back and hitting a target would be a welcome change.

Yeah fair point Draggafan.

I suppose Wojcinski and Enright are slightly too old for where we are planning to go, ie having players peak in about 5 years time. They would be nearing retirement by then.

Considering this, I'd like the club to target Bartel or Moloney. I'm not a fan of Hunt. Has a good kick, but that's about it. Seems to be one-sided and can be found out in the air.

Or we could go for a top ten pick and Geelongs first pick (16). 2 first rounders would be good. We would be lucky to get such a deal which indicates how stupid we were to give away picks 6 and 20 for Brown.

Ottens to Bris!
If were to deal with Bris i would much rather Bradhsaw and Notting!

At least we kno they are both capable as McClaren and Brennan have not shown much at all!

Another option that may have been brought up with is that the cats would be keen to keep their starting 22 from the final intact[midfeild anyway].
considering Kane Tenace wasnt in that starting 22 i wouldnt mind if we targetted him and their 1st rnd pick for Ottens.
IMO that would satisfy the RFC.
Thoughts?

From Big Footy 'trade/draft board'

Rich 7 and 16
Geel ottens and a flag
Coll tenace

I like it alot. Win win win for all parties.

Pick 7 and 16 will be great for our rebuilding. In effect we could have 1,4,7,16,20,36,52. 7 picks in the top 50. Start of a new era.

Geelong would be in a great position to win a flag with Otto FF.

Collingwood are in need of a pacy midfielder.

Either pick 7 and 16, or Tenace and pick 16 will be good for us.

Saturday Night Fever: did you hear the interview late last night on SEN with JD Smith ?

Nah, can't get SEN here in Canberra. Does anyone know if you can tune in via the net?

Thanks for the rundown Red. By those comments, he sounds pretty level headed (he looked it with the way he played too). If the RFC want him (I hope they do, although I'm only really basing that on the couple of times I've seen him, and Phantoms comments) it becomes a tricky proposition. If you take Sheahans comments seriously, you might be tempted to hold off into the third or fourth round, but I honestly think his performance on Saturday will see him go earlier than that.

If we somehow pick up a top 10 pick in the Ottens trade, we could realistically end up with 3+ young classy midfielders, say Deledio/Griffen, Lewis/Monfries/Eckermann and JD Smith, and still use pick 4 on a KPP. This would certainly set us up for the future nicely, IMO

That would be great for Otto as we could set ourselves up,
but if we were offered a solid FF such as a Taz or Bradshaw would RFC take him or rather the picks.
picks 7 &16 would b tempting.

Don't like the idea of Notting, Bradshaw etc.
If another club doesn't want them then neither do we.

However,

Ball would be great in the PSD
And we need ready to go ruck guys like Jolly and simmonds to help Staff

But that's all.
Draft picks will do fine

With Lynch retiring there is no way Brisbane would let Bradshaw go. He was their second best on Saturday and has been outstanding for them this year. He will slip nicely into FF and will be a good smokey for the Coleman next year.

Tenace would be good but can't see Cats letting him go this early. Moloney, Johnson, Enright etc are more likely but are probably second tier cats.

However, anything better than Cat's first pick and one of the above three would be a big win for the Tigers.

Hard to see any players Hawks would have that we'd want so assume the've offered pick 2 or 5.

Proposed From Big Footy 'North Board'

Rich 10 and Hale
North ottens

Acceptable IMO. Don't know much about Hale but it was written that he was pick 7 in the 2001 draft.

A couple of people have mentioned Johnson is a trade for Ottens. There are 2 Johnsons at geelong, one good one bad.

Steven Johnson (number 20) there is no way Geelong would trade him. That bloke is going to be a star and he's a huge favourite of Bomber thompson. Would love to get him but no chance. Would definately be an untouchable.

David Johnson (i think number 28 and the brother of Mark from the Bombers) - is a not up to it.

Thompson has stated that he knows he will have to give up an established player to get Otto. They don't want to miss out on another key forward having missed out on Rawlings last year and unsuccessfully trying to fill the forwards positions with duds like Spinks, Hall, Mitchell White etc. over the years.

I really hope there's a bidding war for Ottens from a few clubs , that would ensure we get the best possible deal.
Can't see this deal being signed off until later in trade week.

Hale, 200cms, 101kgs, 20yo plus pick10 - Not bad!
2004 Ave:
11 games: AK4, AM3, AHB3, AG1, AHO5 - Needs to improve but at 20yo that's not bad. Only 5 HOs per game indicates a lack of ability to jump, or does he just keep missing the ball, or maybe just doesn't play in the ruck. Can anyone verify this?

Having Hale means that he'd go straight into our 1st ruck, Stafford could be a standby for a season with Hall helping, and we can go back to picking up a junior ruckman at pick20 who can play in the 2nds for a season.
And pick10 may get us Lewis.

Makes good sense!

Re: Roll up, Roll up, guess 'The Trade' / Possible Otten deals?/ Ottens Trade [M

Get realistic we can't get that much out of this trade. We are not going to be able to get someone from Brisbane. We won't even be able to get as good as Ottens. We have to be looking toward the future and try and get talented young players off Geelong. There are heaps of them there we just have to look at them, and no we will not be able to get Bartel or Kelly. I'm talking about the likes of Enright, Wojincski, Moloney and Spriggs. We could receive one or two of them plus a 1st round draft pick and that would be a good trade. Seeing as though we have the worst backline in the league.

P.S All you mad tiger supporters out there, if Ottens gets traded to another team, next season go to the game when his team plays Richmond and wave $5 notes at him.

Spriggs?? No thanks. The guy is no good. Was never able to kick the footy before he got injured & has only gotten worse. Pace is all he had & I belive that is desserting him too.

Phantom, I remember watching him a couple of times this year and thinking that he looked pretty good. He certainly didn't seem to have too much trouble jumping. I think the low number of hitouts might just be that he spent a fair bit of time up forward. Porter played in 7 of the 14 games that Hale played, and certainly would have done the majority of the ruckwork. McKernan found form towards the end off the season when Hales stats drop right off, probably meaning that Hale spent alot of time on the bench.

I definitely like the sound of that trade. Do you reckon pick 10 would be enough to ensure that we could get Lewis,Monfries or Eckermann?

Richo12, agree with zips about Spriggs, no thanks. Enright and Wojcinski are good players but will be 24 and 25 next year respectively. Moloney would be my pick, 21 next year, fast and a good kick.

You guys call Ottens a softy then want to pick up Hale?

There is a reason North want to unload him. He's soft as and gets pushed aside with ease.
