Roll up, Roll up, guess 'The Trade' / Possible Otten deals?/ Ottens Trade [Merged]

Yes i agree with you Maverick.I don't know if Tenace would be on the table but he would be a great get.Tenace and a 1st rounder would be most satisfactory.

the cats to land A top 10 pick:
Hawthorn-The hawks need to bolster their Midfield.#5 for Tenace not out of the question altho id say the Hawks would probally want another player.this is where we may come into play.
Ottens to Geelong
Tenace +Zantuck to Hawthorn
Picks-5,16 + 21 to Richmond.

Well done Terry.  2 first rounders would be great as long as one of them is in the top 8.

We should also settle for Tenace and their first pick.  He was a first rounder last year, has pace to burn and will be a great player.  I'd take that.

Of the handbags players,Id be happy with Enright,Bartel and/or Maloney.Maloney is tough and has a build suited to footy.
Bartel had a blinder against us,and roves well to a ruckman.
Enright too has ballgetting ability and the size to be a in and under midfielder if he gets himself fit enough.

Any of these lads, and the twist....for Geelong to muster a deal that gets us another top ten pick...that would be more than adequate.

No i dont know a great deal about the draft. Could somebody with a bit more knowledge please tell me if this statement is true.

there is not a not a lot of difference between pick 10 and pick 30 say. Only the top5 are close to being guarenteed?

Now we're getting out of control..........but I like it  ;D.

Throw in Pettifer instead of Zantuck as the Hawks are interested in him.  Then trade Zantuck in a seperate deal for a 2nd or 3rd rounder.  Do the same for Chaffey, Fiora and Kellaway

At this rate we'll have 15 picks in the top 50 in the national draft.  This is how you rebuild.

Geelong virtually rebuilt from 1 draft.  Let this be our draft.

Ok Zantuck to the doggies for pick 22
Pettifer to the Hawks for pick 21.

Our 2nd round picks of 20,21+22 added to picks 1,4,5 +16.would be good
8 Picks in the top 25 :o ;D.
#16-Wood
#20-Bates
#21-Maric
#22-Jackson
Certainly a change in direction from past drafts!

On Geelong's big footy board, they reckon they will get Essendons 1st round pick of them for Woginski, then on trade it with their pick (16).

Geelong Advertiser: Geelong must provide Richmond with two first-round draft picks if it wants to secure ruck-forward Brad Ottens.

Miller has said that 5 to 30 is fairly even but that's not going to sway our demand for a top 10 pick and Geelong s first pick.

In terms of talent: if it's all even from 5 to 30 then we can take what we need between 5 to 30 knowing we won't be overlooking the best available to get it.

Unfortunately (or luckily) we do need every thing.

hard Coughlan types
Silky fast Wells types
Big McIntosh types
Big John Brown types
Amazing riewoldt types

and we need 3 of each=15

It will be interesting what RFC will do with all the draft picks?

Will they draft a big batch of the new kids. Will they then ontrade them for another recognised talent?

Some intersting times.

Draft Picks could come from
Ottens - from Geel swapping around
Blumfield - maybe from Ess
Zantuck - maybe from Pies
Pettifer - from Haw

Sorry Al, but we delisted Blumfield, Essendon can have him for nothing.

I asked the very question the week he was delisted, I was advised & I'll find the culprit!! :) stated we can trade him away to enable him to go to a club for a pick & avoid the psd.

Oh bummer if your right.

Sorry Al, but we delisted Blumfield, Essendon can have him for nothing.

For what its worth Miller was quoted as saying we retained Blumfield on the list to do a trade (for a very late pick) to a club of his choice.

If nothing eventuated then he would be delisted.

Of course something may have changed since then....

Blumfield can still be traded but Bummers know they are likely to get him for nothing so wont trade. Who cares, hope they take him.

It seems that Geelong are aware of what they have to do and will do it as they finally have a big name player prepared to go down the highway (Rawlings would not).

I now think two first round picks will be the minimum we get for him. Millers' quotes re other trades highlight that some clubs are prepared to pay over the odds. Interesting that he was involved in a couple of them - from both sides.

Personally happy the idea of tenace and pick 17 but doubt Cats will give up Tenace.

Three-way deal needed to land Ottens

Geelong's hopes of securing star Richmond big man Bard Ottens could well depend on being able to arrange a three way trade deal involving another club when the official AFL trade period begins next Monday.

Ottens, one of the most talented big men in the AFL, has walked out on the Tigers and declared his "preferred option" is to play for the Cats next year.

This comes after Ottens, who has performed well below his best since starring in 2001 when the Tigers reached the preliminary final, was asked to take a pay cut by Richmond - which the Tigers described as an offer which was "reflective of where he’s at in his football career.

It is Ottens' ability to also play as a key forward that has Geelong interested in the 24-year-old, who with 129 games behind him is at the peak of his career.

It was the Cats' lack of a consistent key forward which was their major weakness in a season in which they came so close to reaching the grand final in 2004.

Richmond football director Greg Miller in a recent open letter to Tiger fans on the club's website described Ottens as the "hottest trade choice that I can ever remember in league football."

"Early draft choices are what we'd be looking at for an exchange (for Ottens)," Miller said.

"In a year where we’ve already got selections 1, 4 and 20, we’re keen to further bolster our stocks of young talent with more early picks."

However Geelong does not have early picks to offer the Tigers with their first pick in the November 20 national draft not coming until pick 16.

So if the Cats are to secure Ottens, they will most likely have to try and secure earlier draft picks from another club - possibly in exchange for players.

However the Cats are believed to have put together a list of its players considered "untouchable" during the upcoming trade period and this list is also believed to include midfielder Joel Corey.

This ends speculation that Corey could have been used as part of any deal to secure Ottens after there had been rumours that Corey could have returned to his native Western Australia to play with Fremantle, which would then have given its ruckman Troy Simmons to Richmond to in turn allow Ottens to go to Geelong.

But while the Tigers are interested in Simmonds, who is originally from Melbourne, it is believed the Tigers are hoping they can secure the former Melbourne ruckman in the December pre-season draft - where they will also have the first pick.

I like the sound of that.
