There is a post on the Pre-Season Draft already...

But what about the Rookie Draft, we have 2 picks as Cam Howat and Angus Graham and still on it and we have 2 Vets Listed.

What do we need?

I'm hoping for Perry or Posiadly in the Pre-Season Draft and

1 Defender/Ruckman & 1 Midfielder in Rookie Draft.

Maybe someone like...

Gavin Grose Rebounding full-back with plenty of dash and excellent left foot kick. Queensland U18 representative in 2006 and impressive for U18 Allies.

Nathan Batsanis: Small midfielder with good skills. Possesses a penetrating kick. Oakleigh Chargers best and fairest for 2006 completing an outstanding year which included representing Vic Metro in U18 Championships and selection in the TAC Cup Team of the Year.

Sam Jacobs Developing ruckman who progressed to senior level football in SA this year and was a state U18 representative. Sound in the air and has a good awareness and football sense. From Adrossan F.C.

What do people think on who we are going to get?

Of course we can also Rookie, Roach/Limbach or even Perry.

I think we have a plethora of midfielders coming through, but agree with you about needing to work on the back half. Gavin Grose gets a wrap from Burgo as a rebounding defender.

I would love to see the other pick used on one of the natural footballers who often miss out on the draft due to perceived shortcomings in either their height or speed. Please nobody too slow, and definately nobody who can't kick.

I liked the look of Batsanis but would also love to see Dean Kelly get a chance to prove whether he can rise to the next level. Not overly quick, but a guy who uses his body so well, he doesn't need to be. He is pretty strong already but with some more time in the gym, he could be a monster in the forward pocket.

Yes, Dean Kelly was the other player i was thinking of that impressed me in the Under 18 Grand Final.

And also agree with you look at a natural footballer instead of athlete who has got good disposal.

Frankly, I wouldn't consider re-rookying either of Limbach or Roach.

They've had 2 years to master VFL footy, at least. Neither have.

In the light of the draft picks, Riewoldt makes Limbach redundant, as do Edwards, Connors & Collins make Roach redundant.

There were a few really exciting prospects at yesterday's training, plus the other boys who missed out on being drafted.

Frankly, when speaking to Frank, no pun intended, I suggested that we might review again at least one more of our current senior list to make way for an extra rookie choice, if that was possible. He did say that was unlikely.

I would like to have a look at Leigh Adams but chances are he will be one of the first gone in the rookie draft.

I think we need another ruckman.

We have Simmonds and Knobel. Patto is a developing ruck and Angus is a project player. We are short in the is area.

Been told that next year there should be some quality ruckman, not as promising as Leunberger but fairly good.
Maybe it is worth the wait for next year.
Is there really any quality ruckmen left?

I also believe we don't need midfielders and i'm not sure about another ruckman at this stage (Simmo, Knobel, Patto and Graham). If we rookied a ruckman they would still be a future prospect that won't get game time for a few years (a la Graham!). So what would that achieve? If the club thinks we are short in this area, it would be wiser to pick up Bryan from Carlton. Although i've heard bad things about his attitude and dedication, he is young and we have seen he can play senior footy already and we could cover an injury to our ruckman.
We should rookie a couple of backman. Maybe a KPP and a running tough small.

Taz Clingan looked very impressive last Friday at Training. Hit a couple of 40 to 50 metre passes that hit a teammate running at full tilt on the pectorals without breaking stride.

I'd go for Chris Varsamakis.Ready made to play AFL.

why not lets have ready made players all on the rookie list, and players not ready to play on the main list.

Sorry but Ready made players on rookie lists gets me angry. When there are players who won't get a game on the main list.

Edit - The Howat non elevation is really pissing me off, when we talk Kingsley and crap.

Sorry once again.

I'm ready happy you agree with me. ;)

For what its worth, I reckon a big defender is what we need. Plenty of forwards & mids already. Surely there is a big, aggressive 18 yo out there with an attitude. Doesn't need to have great skills, just look at Mick Martyn and Presti - both unskilled but effective. Spend 2 years working with Gas who can teach him the technical side of defending. Problem solved! ;)

Howatt will be on the list before you know it.  Every team picks up long-term injuries every year.  It might even be a clever move.

I know that will happen, however if he was already on the list, we could elevate another one.

And Howat won't probably be able to pay straight away, even though hes ready.

It just makes more sense to me to get another kid by the Rookie draft.

If we get a pick by PSD, I hope its a Perry type, someone who can play already. But Howat still preferred in my mind.
