That's what I'm thinking.

Really hoping McDonough gets a full game.

so looking forward to watching McDonough play. His only senior game against carlton late last year he looked a little overwhelmed and the game was just a tad too fast. Got a feeling this kids picks things up very quickly and look forward to his seconds...and many more games in 2014... possibly more pats on the backs to our recruiting team coming up

Interesting is it not? On League teams last night, 3 of the 4 commentators went for the Suns to win. Only Brad Johnson picked the Tigers. Those 3 seemed very sure of themselves and gave a reason or two. One of them said something about our lack of strength or words to that effect. I don't really give a tinker's damn what they say, but it is interesting the comments from 4 of the great names of past footy. You would think they know a thing or two about the game, and their comments have to have some semblance of authority. Then again, maybe it is only media hype from them to make the show interesting. Must admit to some unease about this game, and whilst hoping and praying for a win, would not be surprised if we got done. Past history coming back to bite me on the bum perhaps. Are others a bit nervous as well?

I think it's a measure of how much the team has improved in that we can lose 3 starting 22 players and replace them with 3 guys we're confident will give us at least as much as the 3 that can't play. The clowns on League Teams know as much as the mug punter in their local footy tipping comp. In fact I think the mug punter may know a bit more.

Not me. We match up well, our backline is the most composed group for over a dedcade. Competition for spots, almost best 22 on the park. It's tiger time.

Know where you are coming from GS1. Think GC will give a bit of cheek before this game is thru, however there's been a lot to like about the Tiges in our past 2 practice matches. Our intensity, zoning and defensive pressure had both Pies and Bummers at 6's & 7's. If we bring that, then GC likely to experience the same thing in the end. I know March form does not really count, however GC & Bummers just about finished even in NAB1 and Pies ended up winning their game against GC by 14pts or so, although GC smashed them in the 1st half before resting players in the 2nd half, while Pies got out of holiday mode after half-time - so hard to read that result. But on that straight form comparison we are about 7-8 goals up - here's hoping it translates on Sat night.

Would it be right to say the last time we played up at Carrara / Mreticon (commercial name) was against the Brisbane Bears back mind 90's sometime??? We have a decent record in Qld, of late vs the Lions. I think the horror of the last few Cairns games was more the venue/location more than the opposition as we struggle to cope with the wind tunnel/humidity/slippry ball...

When it comes to predicting winners, the experts are generally terrible. Just have a look at their footy tips over years. The bookies are a much better guide and as others have said and they have us as clear favourites.

No we played the crows there roughly about 5 years ago and lost....metricon at this time of year will be fine... The hotter the better... We have had much hotter pre season conditions than the suns.

Interesting on how people feel about the listing of the team. To me, as someone who has played field hockey, we are listing our players similar to a field hockey team. That is HF line is the inners/attacking centre half, ie the feeder players who can score but are really the attacking midfielders. Then in hockey you have the "strike forwards" and that is our three talls. These players stay closer to goal with maybe one leading up when the ball is in their area. However their key responsibility is to 'strike' that is score goals.

Once upon a time players actually lined up in the positions listed on the team sheet. The newspapers and commentators would then discuss with certainty that CHF x would be playing on CHB y etc etc.
Then it got to the point where teams might spring a last minute surprise and a bloke selected on the wing would actually play on the back flank.
But its surely been a long time since the published positions meant anything at all - so you'd wonder why they even bother listing a team that way. Might as well just list the squad of names.

I think Axle done has ankle that night??

I like the look of the team, but maybe not for round 1 or 2, first few games are always the quickest and a lot of cramping, I would like to see one less tall for the first couple of rounds, and a little more run

I think it is just published in a recognised format. I am sure I have heard our coaches refer to 'strike forwards' before.

Yeah you're right. There's a template and they just fill it in.

Bookies have as around $1.50. Them around 2.50... Bookies dont like to loose money!!!!

True they don't like to lose money, but the prices are dependant on how much is wagered on each team, not necessarily who the bookies think will win. The bookies, particular the large betting networks will win every time, as they take a small percentage of the total amount bet in each pool. At least this is how it works for the racing, could be different with sports betting, so feel free to correct me anyone

It's still funny that a lot of "experts" are tipping GC and the people putting their money where their mouth is are backing the tiges.

Itching for a win. Will be a long wait until round two if we don't jag this game. Kick straight and we win, I think. Give them a sniff and it could go either way.

Win this week and go into round 2 without the first game expectation and SMASH them... not 36 points and just hang on... But Thrash the living daylights out of the blues...

This first... lets get the 4pts and come BACK HOME.

Gotta say that the Richmond team looks more positionally recognisable than the Gold Coast team.

In the paper, the Gold coast team looks like that put the listed names in a hat and drew them randomly into positions.
