Round 1 vs. Carlton

I think you are effected by the recent hot weather.... let the record show that last year round #1 a Thursday night (2008 season opener) between 16th & 15th drew a crowd of 72,552.... that obviously had a little bit to do with the "Judd factor"..... and now with the Cuz factor, we should expect less? C'mon

I dont think so...... it will be the biggest crowd barring the Grand Final in 2009.

eat'em alive tigzzzz

gotta agree with you here roarfury, some say its a thurs game and work/school the next day believe me its RD 1, big build up....My little 8 yr old nephew has been talking about it every few days, i told him jokingly ahh sorry uve got school, goes running to my sis, mum uncle says ive got school, my sisters reply thats alright you can go, everyone seems to be going.....I think thats the general consesus that most families will make an exception for this RD 1 game! If its a nice night that'll just top it off...

Cuz V Judd there will be between 80K to 90K, MCC members will go to this game and many other supporters who dont follow both teams will want to come along plus AFL members who dont support either of rich or carl will attend this game....My mail is all the west coast fans in melbourne whether its 1000, 2000+ will support Cuz and at the same time support Richmond...

Normally there is about 8-10 of us who go together, ive had at least half a dozen people ask me if i can get tickets totalling over 20 tkts...It could be a ticketed match, i hope its not as it allows people to just roll up early and find a seat...

Im just rapt its our home game, most RD 1 games when its "our home game" we normally sell in the order of 1,500 memberships....i dare say that number could rise to 3,000+...The lead up from the monday to game day thurs, we could sell in the order of 5-6 thousand memberships (inc memberships sold at the ground)...

I must admit, the Cuz factor will be huge!!

last year, the Judd factor was really just Carlton supporters (or band wagoner's) But it seems that 'The Cuz' has the whole footy world excited about his return!!

god i'll be very nervous when this game comes around

Nervous!!.....Mate, I'll be sweating more than a Pedophile at a Wiggles concert. :nailbiting

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this will get 70,000, maybe even less.

Two reasons:

It is a Thursday night with no public holiday the next day. No matter how many adults you get to the ground, the fact is that fewer families turn up for these sorts of matches.

The following evening is the Geelong v Hawthorn GF Replay. Several thousand people from the AFL and MCC members who might have gone to the Tigers v Scum game will go to that one instead.

Anyway, the crowd could be 20,000 and I wouldn't care so long as we WIN THE BLOODY GAME!

Hmmm, I just can't see it on a Thursday night

Going to watch us beat Carlton will be the best thing I have done on a Thursday night for a while though :happy
Don't let your significant other see this post. Might be some very boring Thursday nights for a while. ;D

I reckon you've misread that one TO. Disappointing Geelong vs Try Hard Hawthorn? Most interest will be in the real traditional rivals Rich v Carl. Cuz v Judd. I'll give you 3 reasons why there'll be over 80-85K there:

1. Combined supporter based of Richmond and Carlton would triple that of last years grand finalists
2. High expectations of both clubs supporters for season 2009
3. Lets face it, a Friday workday is a bit different to a Monday or Tuesday

Go Tiges!!

Wouldn't think the crowd would be much different from last year.
As there's no public hol on friday some may stay away but there's no early easter weekend departures either.
The biggest problem with the G's capacity is the fact that The AFL and MCG members lay claim to about half the grounds capacity.
The average Cartoon and Tiger supporter will be swinging from the rafters for this game, specially if Cuz and Judd are lining up and we both go o.k. in the pretend cup thingummy.
Anyone who has not got AFL, MCG, or seasons reserved seats would be well advised to pay the bit extra and buy a reserved seat for the game. If not you can expect nothing better than the nosebleed seats and if there's a bunch of you, you may well be seperated.

70000 max. But I agree with TM, fork out the extra $s and get a reserved seat.

Nah, 70000 min.

Well, we shall see. Can't wait though.

Booked our hotel in the city for March 26 to stay after the game. Have to head off by 7.30am as Mrs Yinnar has to front up for work on Friday.
