Round 13 "Ross is in Vegas Games"

Boy, the Dees got hosed by umpires today. Close game, the umpires made the difference.

Thank God for a decent game, horrible short bye weekend.

First time ever, I think the game is in trouble, the actual standard of football. Between the standard and the umpiring the spectacle is dimmed. Along with unintelligent 24/7 media circles, find myself de investing. First time ever.
Have felt exactly the same for a while now.

Just can't find too much that's enjoyable in footy anymore. Harbour so much resentment to the power brokers that have destroyed a great sport.

None of my kids, or any of their mates are diehard footy followers. Who can blame them?

The game is a mess.

But number 1 agenda from Dillon? Better go to Bailey Smiths joint.

You're the one getting personal with the childish Tiny Tim label. Do better.
Relax dude as May was right as Gawn got it wrong twice. TT has a personal vendetta against May and has misread the moments in the game because of it. Get your facts right and learn the difference between peace keeping and peace making.

Unfortunate last word Cotch - especially when Bailey Smith’s name is next to it 😅😅

Yes they got a great ride by the umpires.

But ya gotta hand it to Collingwood how they play close finishes. Yes there's been some luck involved over the past 3 years, but also plenty of strategy.

17 other sides in that last couple of minutes take the shots at goal that were available - or work towards it.

Collingwood deliberately didn't take the shot (or work towards it). Knowing if they missed, it gives the opposition the ball back.

How many players in Pendlebury's shoes play on when he marked running into goal with 1 min left.

Then if they do, they go back, have a shot and its rushed through for the opponents to have a last ping.

Was quite genius how they managed the clock. Great coaching and on ground leadership. Pricks.

Agree.

These bye rounds are an absolute joke for starters. Five weeks of this rubbish. Then we wait for Thursday night football and it’s St. Kilda v Dogs. FFS!

Maybe we’re due another State Of The Game inquiry. Introduce another new rule to increase scoring, sorta like the stand rule….

Watching On the Couch tonight supposedly if a player is back 5 Metres from the mark they don't have to stand.

I recently watched a half hour youtube video of Richmond highlights 2017-20. The difference in the spectacle hits you like a sledgehammer. Fast, attacking, kicking the ball forward. Compared to today's chip and kick nonsense.
Now I am willing to concede that some of this sentiment is because it's Richmond playing well and winning flags. But I'm sure the style is different. Perhaps it was our manic game plan. Whatever. It was a different spectacle.
Can we blame it all on the stand rule?

Exactly as I thought, but it’s not interpreted like that for Collingwood, Carlton , Suns and Geelong. It’s just cheating.

Yep. I was thinking today I need a half year break from the game.

Endless, rubbish chipping around sideways and backwards, maintain uncontested control. Forwards that couldn't kick a goal from 20m dead in front to save themselves. Umpires paying "nothing" frees galore because for all intents and purposes they don't have much to umpire now, and then giving them to their favourites. Sycophantic and biased media telling lies. Shock jocks like Corne, McClure etc making stuff up.

It's a glorified game of basketball, just on a bigger field with more players, and a corrupt officialdom controlling the media around it all.

And then there 's Gerard Healy....
Think we should go the VFA route.
16 players on the field per side.

In 20 years time, the AFL will finally (maybe) work out that 16 is the way to go.
Tend to agree. As much as I hate rule tinkering, the congestion in today's game is a hard watch.

Slightly different to the VFL's way, I'd keep the wings at the centre bounce and reduce the forwards and defenders by one apiece.

5–6–5 better suits the varying ground widths of a footy oval.

The other little tweak I'd make to reduce congestion is to secondary and tertiary centre bounces: wings and half-forwards/half-backs get back out of the centre square.

If we can stuff around waiting for rucks to attend bounces around the ground, centre bounce recalls and goal reviews, we can wait to get players out of the centre square for secondary stoppages.

Can we stop the under 12 rule of nominating the ruck contenders.
Anyone can contest, no name needed, but if more than one from any side, free kick !
And the stand rule, please!!!!

That 50m was ridiculous. Lindsay ? had run his 5m back.

Pathetic, contrived and under handed rule implemented by pathetic umpires.

I agree with Richo. Too many very ordinary athlete type players. Talent pool is spread way too thinly. Same with umpires.
The more you have on the ground, the worse they are. Two ideal, three tolerable, four farcical.

The "protected zone" rule doesn't apply to Collingwood, twice in the short time I watched the game, I saw 2 pies players run past a Melbun player taking a kick from a mark or free. Both within 5 metres & no oppo player near them. Surely that should have been a 50 metre penalty.
