Round 18 v Geelong game day thread

King cant be fined, he had every right to mark the ball and the ball was never going to clear the line by much, so therefore, the ump needed to be against the post. Because of the wind it fell well short of where King and the goal umpire thought the ball was going to land and they got tangeled.

Another thing, try kicking through the ball with that wind. The moment you give the ball that much air in that wind, it can go anywhere. Thats why the ball was kept low by every player, I think all of Johnsons goals where half post height or even lower. You cant get penetration through the ball in those conditions. It was terrible to watch and even when I played, for some reason, on the windy days, the game was just flat, because the ball moved from one end to the other so slowly.

The ball wasnt transfered by foot all that much today, based on the wind, Geelong ran in numbers and handballed through the middle to create play. When we kicked, the ball was held up and we fell short of targets. They handballed 230 times compared to our 189. We had 185 kicks and they had 198. Therefore, Thompson must have drilled them about run and receive. They have running options everywhere. Thats why they are number one, so many team goals, they have runners on the left and right. Also 55 tackles to 77, Jimmy Bartel wrapped up 4 tackles in one play, one of the best efforts I've seen all year.

On the ump, depends on if its "THAT" time of the month with the review panel. Some weeks you can clobber an umpire if its in play, the next if they run into you you cop a $2500 fine because you should have known where he was going.

On the kicking, completely agree. You avoid kicking high on windy days.

Oh yea, the speeding fines :P Simply, King had every right to go for that, plus he took the mark in play. Neither the goal ump or King read it well.Although, when it happens to the goal umps they turn it on them and say that the umps should be in better position. When it happens to field umpires you get a fine. It should be thrown out, but....you never know

I said from day one Simminds was a jib and that game he ducked the shoulders against the Bulldogs did it for me. He doesnt have any go in him.

Our ruckman are all hacks.
Crap Simonds was second only to Cox last year and is three games back from a broken ankle and working back into it nicely. Will be ok next year with an injury free pre-season.

His a jib...his 6'5 and he thought he herd footsteps and did the Hunt, they cruisified him last year, for a tall bloke to do that...mate, he broke his ankle, they didnt take his balls away. Put the tape on, watch it against the bulldogs this year, last quater, he is part of the leadership group and ducks his shoulders. Thats part of the reason we are where we are.

Two things that stood out is firstly the obvious, we are still built like sailors, and secondly our fitness level is very poor.

Sailors like Gilligan :hihi

Mate I don't know about you Greeks, but in oz putting the shoulder in means you're having a go. I'm still going to give him more than three games before I "cruisify" him.

Bill James, I've played more games of football than I've posted on the site and a pet hate of mine was a guy built like Tarzan that plays like Jane. His 6'5 and he doesnt put the shoulder in, he ducks them when he goes back with the ball.

We got rid of a player called Kellaway that set an example every week on how to go about it. Now we have a leader like Simmonds.

I'm not judging his games, he may have had a good game, he may have been the best last year, but I have no time for jibs.

Did you also notice him limping badly in the third quarter because his broken ankle was *smile*?

Im not saying he doesnt have courage in terms of playing with an injury, all I'm saying, is that a broken ankle does not stop you from doing what Kellaway did every week. You duck your shoulders and jib it, it means you *smile* yourself. He didnt jar his leg when it happened.

He is playing injured, but he is also a jib. Simple. Kane Johnson is playing injured, most players are. As a matter of fact, if the season ended now most of our players would go under the knife, I commend them for their courage on that part.

If his ankle is well and truely gone, or on the way out, there isnt any point in him playing at all again this year.

I meant that he was hobbling in the Dogs game before the incident where you said he jibbed it.

He missed a critical 6 weeks in the pre-season, then played hurt for a month before missing another 6. We were never going to get much out of him after that. Agree, he's not playing well and if he's still sore, I think we could get by with Patto and Graham in what's left of the year.

To say he's got no 'go' in him is a bit rough though, he's been suspended more than once for striking.

If you look closely he often gives it to the opposition ruckman, he's a physical player. Sorry I don't really think you can be a jib and play in the ruck, to wiling have a guy who weights 110 kg get a run up then throw his knee into you 20-30 times a game is not a job for the soft

Forget about whether he is a jib or not.

The fact of the matter is, that Simmo should NOT be in the team at the moment.
We would be better off (now and next season) if Simmo took the rest of the season off, got his injuries right before pre-season (whether that means surgery or not, I don't know...but whatever it is, go and get it right NOW!) and let Graham/Patto finish the last 4 games off between them.

The added game time won't hurt Graham, and won't hurt Patto either.

At the moment, Simmo is a shadow of what he was last season.

Agree - great post...possibly too logical.
