Williams denies hangover
April 29, 2005

FOR a teetotaller like Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams, the concept of any hangover - let alone a premiership-sized one - is hard to grasp.

Williams accepts Port's AFL premiership defence hasn't gone to plan, with the club languishing in 13th position with just one win this season.

Some pundits have labelled the slide a premiership hangover, noting Port needs to rejuvenate its side to repeat last year's inaugural flag.

"Rejuvenation ... is just rubbish to us," Williams said today.

Port enters Sunday's away clash with Richmond having let slip two home games in past weeks - a draw against Carlton, and a four-point loss to Geelong.

"We are not far from it, we think we are getting better," Williams said.

"One kick, two weeks in a row, would have won us the game and we'd be third on the ladder, so we're looking at it from a positive point of view.

"But we will need that one kick this week if we are to get the result."

The desired result is victory over the seventh-placed Tigers, and Williams doesn't care how it is achieved.

"I want to see a win - there's no doubt that whatever it takes, we're going to win," he said.

"It makes it difficult to finish high up the ladder if we don't win this week, but it's not impossible."

Official Ins and Outs

In Meyer, Tambling, Johnson
Out Hyde, Raines. Jackson >:( >:( >:( >:(

From SMS update.

Jacko doesn't deserve to be dropped.
I won't be surprised if Johno doesn't line-up.
Pettifer Graham Chaffey and Krak should consider themselves extremely lucky.

Honestly, how do Raines and Jackson get dropped ahead of Krakouer and Pettifer ?

Probably to do with team balance/match ups

But I tend to agree - Jacko in a forward pocket would give us more than Krak in his present form.

no point dropping these players until the young uns are ready to replace them on a permanent basis

get used to these guys being in the side for pretty much the whole year...

the only young players who may be able to be full time players as this stage are schulz hartigan
and moore and as we know all these players have had injury problems..

Particularly Krak. What did he have last week, 4 touches?I get more than that at the Cougar Bar. ;D

While Jackson might be young he hasn't done much at all will not hurt him to go back to the 2's and get a kick

I feel bad for Jackson as he has been servicable although I do agree will do him good to goto Cobrg and be a full game midfielder and get some confidence. Krakouer hasnt been great this season but he has been getting the footy except for last week when he did nothing although I dont agree with dropping blokes after 1 bad game. I think he takes to olong to make a decision though with the ball and that needs to be worked on.

Balm Army I am with you on Graham, he deserves is spot in the team and I have rated his sweason so far as quite good for hte roles he has been playing.

Has Wallace got something against last years recruits.

Jackson
Roach
Raines
Gilmour

Out of the side.
Agree Crackertiger,Astounding changes.Jackson has every right to be peeved & so does Raines.Gilmour deserved his chance. Is Mark Graham on a weekly promise?

Ok i can sort of understand why Jacko got dropped purely on the basis that this is really his 1st year and short spells on and off the bench is probally not the ideal way to learn the trade.I agree that both Krak and petticoat are very lucky as much as Jacko being unlucky along with Raines.
I would have preferred to keep Jonno out for another week to be on the safe side and keep either Raines or Jacko in.

how the hell does pettifer keep getting a game every week? i am disgusted that TW overlooks his poor performances week after week and drops the kids only because he has a few more games under his belt. what are blokes like him, chaff, krakouer offerring us. NOTHING. nothing but pain and sufferring and frustration for 2 and a half hours every week. I'm pissed off these imposters have got everyone from the selectors all the way to some ignorant supporters fooled.

i am sick and tired of the poor lame excuses week after week that so and so is too young or not developed enough or needs game time at coburg. its all *smile*. these guys are wasting space on the list and denying OUR kids the oppurtunity to develop at AFL level.

uuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh!

Deep breathes Lebo, c'mon mate settle and don't loose it completely. I agree with you about pettifer but the kids time will come soon enough. They have waited all their lives to play consistently in the seniors at the RFC - their time will come sooner rather than later mate.

I'd prefer that they give Johnno another week and kept Jacko in. Delighted to see that Meyer and Bling are getting a game, though. Would Jacko get back in if Johnno doesn't come up?

What do you do if Johnno doesnt play - do you go for the bigger bodied player in Jackson against a strong PA side or do you go for the speed of a Raines or Roach on a fast TD surface???
