Thought a specific thread to moan about our ruck stocks makes sense as opposed to trying to separate into the various players.

How screwed are we ? iVan is a shadow. Hampson is more productive with a super model. Plasma is playing like a Princess. Big Ben, like his namesake, only chimes in once an hour.

Soldo ? Is he a realistic chance or are we living in hope ? Chol ? Will he be ready next year ?

Its not ideal, and we need a decent ruckman, but our backups are OK. Some classy mids are the main thing we need.

I posted on another thread.

What's the progress of Ivan Soldo? Obviously a long term prospect and project player. But anyone whom watches the 2nds able to tell us, does he look to have the aptitude to eventually make it? Or very unlikely? He's obviously a monster of a man, but you need more than that.

And the other long term project, Cholly? At this stage as far as I've read, showing most aptitude as a forward. Does he show any potential to do a significant amount of ruck work long term? Obviously at 198cm a little shorter than most modern rucks, but his leap would make up for it somewhat.

Are our backups really ok ? Or are they OK relative to our main ruckmen only ?

It's a huge mess. Zac Clarke will get overpaid. We have too. I'd also be talking to Tom Nicholls. Dropped this week after his best game. Something isn't right.

Should have drafted Brodie Grundy three years ago. That's list management. We have left a gaping hole in the list that can only be fixed be overpaying a stop gap and finding a replacement in two years.

Soldo is still two or three years away and is a legit 30/1 shot to make it.

Chol is a project. The perfect project to have if you have replacements ahead of him. We don't. Still wouldn't rush him.

I really hope we don't go after Clarke. We need a beast, not another ballet dancer.

Agree with all that. Could it be that we didn't look to draft a proper ruckman because we decided to take Soldo on, probably recommended by Ivan? Hardly professional judgement if so.

Think Chol is more of a forward and pinch-hit ruckman. Not quite tall enough. Great spring but it's really hard work jumping all day against much bigger men. If he sustains any injury, that leap may diminish too. Hopefully he still has a couple more cms of growth in him.

A true ruck has to have a bit of brute about him, not the light-bodied, timid, gentle types that we have selected.

How could the powers that be possibly think that a cooked Maric and a hopeless Hampson could carry the ruck division in a season where apparently we are challenging for a flag?

Staggering.

Yep, Clarke is not the answer.

Lobb from GWS? Mummy is out of contract apparently. He sells out so he's a chance.

yep, plenty here saying the clubs belief that Hampson and Maric were sufficient as rucks with back up from Griff and Ty.

Was NEVER going to be good enough.

Lobb is going nowhere - a Canberra boy from memory. Mumford is happy is Sydney and will probably resign at GWS.

Richardson & Hartley are on the record as saying our ruckstocks were in good shape post trade period.
This despite the fact that Maric was destroyed by Goldstein in the Elimination final & Hampson went in for reconstructive surgery on both ankles.

The term negligent comes to mind.

This attitude regarding our ruck stocks is a supreme example of the malaise affecting the RFC at the moment. We have no one in senior positions at the club who have any idea of what it takes to develop a successful football team in the current AFL environment.

O'Neill, Gale, Richardson, Hartley and Jackson are all absolutely clueless when it comes to on field football matters.

Maybe get chol forward with jAck and reinvent ty v as a ruckman

Vickery as a ruckman? Please. We'd get more out of Daniel Rioli as a ruckman than that prancer.

Darksider.

Stupid thing is nearly every punter on here could see this unfolding.

Grundy was the perfect draftee at the right time to come through under Ivan.

Then two good quality rucks in Zac Smith and Leuenberger are available for either a couple of late picks (49 & 53 Smith) or an free agent (Leuenberger).

Will we be so lucky this year. Only Zac Clarke is a potential free agent acquisition and if TV leaves we won't want to get anyone in via that method anyway.

Debacle.

Soldo's a waste of time and just another one of those 'family favourites'. We had a chance to get Jack Fitzpatrick but the Hawks snapped him up.

How about we create one for once, even considering how mediocre we are in developing talls.
