Stafford will surely retire at the end of this year, and probably would have last year if he wasn't needed as insurance for Simmo and Knobel.
Given this scenario and Staff's minimal impact it would be better to have Patto playing Stafford's role as a big unit in the goalsquare and relief ruck for Simmo. We need to get some games into the boy to stand him in good stead for 2007 and beyond.
Knobel, too, must be given priority over Staff if he's over his current injury concerns and his form warrants it. Early last year he gave us first use of the ball. Stafford's not even achieving that these days.
