Runners/The two frees in the second quarter on Sat. What the!! (merged)

Re: The two frees in the second quarter on Sat. What the!!

The commentary said they were for holding the jumper in the huddles, I didn't see them though.

Re: The two frees in the second quarter on Sat. What the!!

Umpire was worried about his Crow's wager!!

Re: The two frees in the second quarter on Sat. What the!!

One was for holding, the second wasthe runner Hudson was inside 50 at the kick out

i herad it was for the runner. either way 2 disgraceful decisions.

Runners?

Do the coach have control over the actions of the runners.

Are they used to do more for the team tactics wise then just send a message.

Is it against the laws of the game or just the spirit of the game.

The reason I ask is i am appalled by the Essendon runner this weekend.

He touched a player in the skirmish, he coached whilst on the field and he attempted to block an opposition player. Dimma is the one I am talking about.

And here we Have Sheedy having a go at our coach and team for not doing things in the spirit of the game.

If he has any control of his runners and there actions either on the day or in planning, I have now Zero respect for the man.

Sheedy if this is the case you have NIL INTEGRITY and should leave the game.

Re: Runners?

Penalties need to be dished out. How would Sheeds feel about have no runner next week. I think him and his club would then make sure the likes of Barnsy and Dimma behave.

white line fever tonight both times for the runner.
hudson thought he was allowed in forward 50 because tigers where in possession,he was wrong ??? ??? ???

Stupid rule

you would think the team kicking out would be disadvantaged by the runner taking up space.

They get penalised as well

I'm curious about this rule. I know in the past that a free kick was given if a runner or trainer was inside the 50 while kicking out. What happens now that the full back can kick out immediately, the runner/trainer doesn't have time to move out. Is there any change to this rule?

That's a good point. But then again the boundary umpire now doesn't necessarily have the time to move to the junction of boundary and 50m arc (they are supposed to stand there during the kick-in, and can then look up and down both lines to make sure runners etc. aren't inside, much as they do on the corners of the centre square at centre bounces).

In the ammos we actually lost a game a few years back due to misinterpretation of this rule. We were three points up with a minute left and North Brunswick kicked a point. Our runner was inside 50m telling everyone there was a minute left when the ball left the full-back's boot -- free kick. Except instead of paying the free kick at centre half forward where it's supposed to be, he gave it in the goal square, and of course the North Brunswick bloke kicked the goal and they won.

(If the team who just kicked a point has their runner inside 50m at the subsequent kick-out it's a 50m penalty.)

Commentators had no idea, I saw the free kicks and our runner was been talked to by the umpire on both occasions (by the look of it, the "Just following the coach's instructions" excuse cuts little ice with some umpires).

You cannot get close to the bunched huddle at a kickout and increase the congestion by trying to follow certain players around all day giving personalised instructions.

We got caught, no "ifs or buts".
