Does anybody know where the club will sit with respect to the Salary Cap in 2008? What % of the cap will we spend?

Anything over 92.5% would constitute a crime against humanity ironically punishable by death.

I had similar thoughts, though not as extreme.

We're certainly going to overpay a few to get up to 92%.

Hoping we have left some room to keep any kids who we actually develop into good players in later years.

This is a good excercise.

How many blokes are on the rookie standard contract.

Let's through some numbers around and figure out who is on what.

Joel Bowden 500ish?
Matthew Richardson 500ish?

Dunno lets have a go.

Let's start with what a salary figure is??

Please don't talk about salary caps, I get recollections of the Fab 4 that had our club by the balls for years..............thanks Leon.

Put the players on a performance basis, you get paid if you win.

It certainly would keep them lean and mean. :D

From what Brownie said when he signed his last contract, performance base forms a large slice of it.

I think the salary cap is around $8,000,000, so 92.5% would be around
$7,250,000.

Maybe it is divided up like this.
Bowden 400
Brown 500
Coughlan 300
Foley 300
Johnson 250
Newman 300
Pettifer 350
Polak 350
Richardson 500
Simmonds 300
Tivendale 200 $3,750,000

Deledio 250
Hyde 150
Jackson 150
King 150
Mcmahon 300
Morton 150
Pattison 150
Polo 150
Raines 150
Schulz 200
Tambling 250
Thursfield 150
Tuck 250 $2,450,000

Casserly 100
Collins 100
Connors 75
Cotchin 100
Edwards 75
Graham 75
Gourdis 75
Hughes 100
Mcguane 100
Moore 100
Myer 150
Oaklie Nicholls 100
Rance 75
Reiwoldt 100
Putt 75
White 100 $1,500,000 = $7,700,000

I don't think we would be spending much less?

I dont care how they divvy it up, most RFC players are over rated and seriously over paid.

I despair at a club having to over pay duds for no performance as a minimum salary cap limit has to be layed out.

Maybe we pay the players, to reach our 92%, then they 'donate back' what they don't deserve?

If that was the case we'd make a profit without sponsors or gate takings

Add to that rookie payments to:
Collard
Howat
Cartledge &
Sylvester
and you're back to around $8m again.

I know the AFL contributes towards the rookies but should the amount be included/excluded from the salary cap?

AFL announces massive salary cap hike

The AFL's salary cap will go up by almost 25 per cent over five years under a new pay scheme announced by the League and the AFL Players' Association (AFLPA) today.

The deal will take effect in yearly increments from next season and will eventually see each club being authorised to spend more than $8 million a year on player wages.

The deal also includes more cash for clubs and players who make the September finals series.

Clubs who make the finals will share a prize pot worth more than $1 million from 2007, with the AFL promising 40 per cent of the cash will go straight to the players.

Today's agreement also includes increased payments for rookies as well as contributions to the player retirement fund and a pledge to pay for health insurance for all players.

In total the deal will be worth almost $730 million to players over the next five years.

Funding comes largely from the AFL's $780 million TV rights deal - the richest ever in Australian sport.

The salary cap hike means that total player payments will rise from $103.6 million this year ($6.47 million per club) to $111.1 million (or $6,943,750 per club) next season.

In a statement on its website the AFL said that by 2011 the total player payment figure for each club would be $8,225,000.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou said the extra cash would help ward off competition from other sports.

"This is a great story for any young person out there who wants to come and think about playing AFL football instead of a rival code," he said.

"Come and play AFL football because you'll be remunerated at the highest level."

AFLPA president Brendan Gale said his organisation was satisfied with the new deal.

"We think it's a fair outcome for players, for all players regardless of their rank or profile or status within the industry," he said.
