Salopek signs new AFL deal with Port
September 27, 2005 - 12:20PM
Developing midfielder Steven Salopek has signed a new contract with AFL club Port Adelaide for two years, quelling speculation that he may look elsewhere.
Salopek, 20, was considered one of the outstanding prospects in the 2002 national draft when he was taken by Port with the sixth selection.
He has played just 26 games in three seasons but Port was desperate to keep him as a potential boost to its midfield group in 2006.
Salopek said he was more than happy to be staying at Alberton.
"It's fantastic to have signed," he said.
"I looked at all of my options, but I'm confident of where the club is heading and what role I can play at the club, and I'm very happy to be staying with Port Adelaide."
12 months on, would be surprised to see a deal done, but if it were attractive enough any deal is possible - however that's when trading becomes winners and losers though.........
