Are we setting ourselves up for a big fall.

This is the most excited I have been going into an afl season in more than 20 years but am i expecting too much.

What has really changed since we battled to ninth last year??

Has all the hype about Cousins has given us a false euphoria??

We still do not have a reliable focal point up forward, we still have a skinny backline and we still have a very young midfield with the ability to rotate and run out four quarters at 100 per cent in doubt.

The chimp is likely to be out for an indefinite period.

OK The glass half empty attitude......My biggest worry is if we lose the first 3 or four matches by even narrow margins will we start eating our own. Or worse we cop a flogging from Carlton in round 1......jeez I cant bear to think how busy this forum would be.??

Glass half full....We get off to a flier, spank Carlton and share the ladder lead after three rounds.

As I said.....excited and scared.

For me I am looking for improvement in the young guys aged 19 - 22, a simple effective style of play and clean skills. The result is not overly important although winning is more fun than losing.

But I recall a conversation many years ago with John Nix - ex Tiger champion and reserves coach whom my father describes as Geoff Raines before Geoff Raines. He said it is a chance to practise things and fine tune for Rd 1. Winning is irrelevent at this stage.

Yeah must admit I'm feeling a little scared. Many expectations on us, even from other clubs supporters.

I can see the fans on here and BigFooty going into meltdown today if we lose too. Sad but true.

We need to keep in mind that we do have a tough run for our first month or so, even if we do notch a few losses we need to stay calm, remember that the second half of the year we have a great run home, if we are losing games in the back half of the season that is when we can start to panic.

I think it's time to enjoy the journey, it's natural to be apprehensive, I'm sure even supporters of last year's finalists feel the same. Go tiges, it's great to have some optimism at this time of year.

It's an exciting time to be around the club with the new kids coming up. What are you expecting ?

The kids are a year older. We've picked up some good height in the trading period though they're a couple of years off dominating.

For some, undoubtedly. Others have been able to realise he's a 30yo who's been out of the game for over a year and may not be the messiah

Forward line hasn't changed from last year. Backline might not be apes but they are good. Rance and Post can help there. Hislop and Thommo. Cogs and Cuz will add midfield depth. We've got a very good midfield.

Can't be worse than when we got dumped on in our centennial last year

Hope for the best, expect the worse. Reality will be somewhere in between.

That's true. We need to beat Carlton round 1 as we have Geelong and the Bulldogs.

I am a little both, but if we continue to play like we did at the end of last season I can see us winning games this season and making the finals. I know clubs like to experiment during the NAB cup but with the squad we are taking over we should win and have to win. Our membership is up.... if we play well in the NAB cup that will continue to rise.

I think we're the best positioned to make a push for the 8 than we have been since Wallace arrived. Remember, even BBC (before Ben Cousins) the Tigers were being talked up, along with Carlton, as likely inclusions in the 8 for the 2009 seasons. Our results in 2005 and 2006 were misleading (most of the success in 2005 was Nathan Brown driven, 2006 was largely due to a phenomenal season from Simmonds and some other players such as Raines putting in better than expected contributions and there were a few massive losses in amongst the wins), this did not happen in 2008, the wins were not on a back of one player and there were very few out and out beltings, we also lost a number of close games. It reminds me a lot of 1994 and we all know what happened in 1995. I don't expect to win the 1st NAB Cup match, but I'd like to. I do agree that the H&A season start needs to be a positive one to keep the enthusiasm amongst the supporters and the young players.

I'm excited about tonight's game and anoth TV game against Collingwood in a fortnight - but the NAB means nothing and we go back to zero for round 1

Hope we aren't too cocky - hope we are the real deal

Hate to blow my own horn, but I can see people getting angry already.

Win or lose means nothing at this point.

The problem most people see is that there's no improvement in ball movement.

Hopefully the coaches can wake up to this.

Was always going to happen if we lost this game, which is why Richmond really had to go all out to win.

hoy.......it is only 60 minutes of footy......bit worrying that it issame old same old but lets keep the glass half full approach

I'm worried bout the first 3 games,if we are 0-3 Wallace will be in all sorts & we will be trying to play catch up for the rest of the yr,but we could be 2-1 & things look good

Well Roller I had the same fears going into tonight's game.

And look what happened.

With a much better side than Freo we scrape in by 3 points. We only played 1qtr and a bit of football that was of any decency.

The game plan (whatever it is) does'nt seem to have changed.

If it wasn't for Richo we would have lost ( as we would have last year in about 3 or 4 games)

No not much has changed.

There has been too much hype me thinks.

Can a 65% Ben Cousins make that much difference?

If we are to continue into in this competition we need to play more consistent football. We played some poor footy during that game. But I still think that we are going to do well this season. When we played well tonight, the team played awesome footy.
