Ok, shoot me down if this doesnt stand up to scrutiny - but here goes. I noted the similarity of our losses to Sydney and Adelaide. Both games seemed to unfold in remarkably similar manner- and our weaknesses exposed almost identically.

A few weeks back when Sydney played Adelaide one commentator noted that Adelaide always match up well against Sydney because they play a similar style and stop Sydney playing to their desired game plan.

Is it a coincidence then that our two worst losses have been against Sydney and Adelaide - impliying its that particular game plan that completely undoes ours?

.and as a trailing idea to this.. does that mean we can go into the game against Hawthorn with at least the view that we may fare better against a team playing a different style (a style more akin to our own, infact). Not saying we are likely to win, but are just less likely to be made to look like fools like Sydney and Adelaide did.

Thoughts?

We won't physically beat you up and abuse you to the same extent as other hard-bodied teams like Adelaide and Sydney. Having said that, we've been strong enough this year to beat both those bogey sides, albeit by the skin of our teeth in Adelaide. Our defensive game-plan, though, is harsh on teams that lack precise disposal, so if you come undone badly, it's likely to be due to that rather than immature bodies.

i actually think I am the curse.. i flew interstate to both of those games without bringing back the goods..

Sorry! ;D

So yes i think Moore will shut down Buddy and we will smash Hawthorn!!

What planet are you lot on???? :spin

Watch the replay of our last Hawks game!!!

It should have been over at half time - if not for innacurrate kicking!!!!

They should have SMASHED US!!!!!!

With confidence where it now is - and players already looking to their holidays - how exactly do you think we will win????

This post is a PI$$TAKE :cutelaugh

where exactly did I say we would beat Hawthorn, idiot? Did you actually read the OP or jdid you just decide you wanted to have a go at me irrespective of what I said?

Do Hawthorn have the same game plan as Sydney? No
Do Hawthorn have the same game plan as Adelaide? No.

Arguably our worst two losses this year were against Sydney and Adelaide and I was drawing comparisons between their particular game plans and how they seem to expose us more than others (as evidence - our worst two losses) - and yes potentially more so than Hawthorn's.

All I was saying was that given HAwthorn have a different game plan to Sydney and Adelaide we may not get disected in the same way we did in those two games; and that perhaps against a different game plan we may fare better. Didnt say we would win. We could fare 10goals better and still not win! HAwthorn beat us last time, but then lots of other teams have beaten us 'last time' - it wasnt really the point of the post/discussion.... but then I guess you werent really interested in that to begin with, were you?

Im bumping this - not because I picked us to beat Hawthorn (I didnt) but because maybe the point I was trying to make is now even more relevant ....

I think your point is very relevant. There are always teams who consistently play well against particular teams because their matchups are better. I think teams are starting to work the Hawthorn gameplan out as well, they are 2 wins and 3 losses from their last 5 now. 4 wins and 4 losses from last 8 after being 11 wins and 1 loss from first 12.

Wallace outcoached the garden gnome at his own game yesterday. Our ability to continually set up on one side of the ground & then automatically switch to the opposite side of the ground, while the Hawthorn gumbies were too busy standing in the corridor, showed that the gnome has no plan B. When we didn't have the ball, the zone set up by Wallace was much more effective in blocking up more space than theirs & we forced them to cough it up. Quite an enjoyable day really! :)

Nice call. Must admit, I didn't have much confidence before the game either. Go Tigers!
