This week would have been a perfect time to give *smile* a go at FF.
I am told he was quiet last week for Coburg, but the week before I watched him closely against Box Hill and he was very impressive despite being off for a quarter after a head clash, and the week before that he kicked 7 goals. He is clearly in pretty good form. He has also done well against the lions previously.
Surely we should be making the most of Richo's absence and seeing how our other potential Full-forwards go without him there. For years we have been arguing about whether or not our key forwards are able to be more effective without Richo, and the subsequent win-loss record without him. Whether this phenomenon is true or not, it has obviously been cause for much discussion over the last few years. So now that we are forced into a Richo-less situation, why not have a crack at seeing if one of our young key forwards can live up to their own talent, and our expectations?
I know many people believe schulz has had ample opportunity to 'prove himself', but many of us that still think he has something to offer, believe that only NOW is there finally a decent opportunity for him at FF. Given that we are always arguing about whether he plays with more confidence/freedom/etc when Richo is not around, surely we should be giving him a shot. Who knows, if he plays ten good games we have our new full forward. If it doesn't work after a few weeks, we give up on schulz as a FF option and we give Hughes, Vickery or someone else a go. At least then we could make a proper judgement and people like me would stop defending him.
Seriously, if we are not going to pick schulz at full forward in a situation like this, ahead of an out of form ruckman (Simmo), then why did the club torment us by resigning Jay's contract?
