I reckon he's a pretty good player Welsh and the Crows have made somewhat of a tough call to delist him.

I think his major problem is, is that he misses a lot of games through injury.  He certainly did in 2006 after a pretty good 2005.

If there was nothing else on offer in the PSD I'd take him but I'd suggest on one year only.
i agree i reckon hes a decent player. very good on the lead. our forward line is as deficient as our backline and our midfield. we are crying out for a chf that maybe polak as i reckon wallace has targeted him for this role. we could do with a bloke who leads well and to the right places whos tall with good size. once again my only concern is his age but seeiong as how most ferals think we are going to make finals next yr i would have thought someone like welsh is a must.because i wouldnt want to rely on pettifer schulz krakouer and (brown thru injuries) to get us into the 8.
He could be a good backup if one of the bigger forwards went down.As claw said would be handy if he could down the chf spot, richo at forward and use shultz as a 3rd tall, and with brownie and petts running around would look half reasonable.

Missed 52 of the past 120 Crows matches. Kingsley is the same age and has a better record in terms of goals kicked.

Welsh has missed footy through injury not ability.

You're probably right that he has more natural talent.

Crows' leading goalkickers:
2005 - Welsh, Perrie, McGregor, Thompson, Hentschel
2006 - Ricciuto, Hentschel, Burton, Bode, Thompson

Of the 2006 list, only Hentschel stands taller than 185cm and he will be missing next year. For the Crows to delist Welsh, it is likely that either
- his physical problems make him an unsound proposition
- he doesn't fit the Crows' forward blueprint

While Welsh is decent enough at ground level for his type, would we be versatile enough up forward with Richardson, Schulz and Welsh/Hughes, with Simmonds resting, or is this an outdated formula?

Assuming he stays in one piece, at 28 (in December) we would possibly get three serviceable years from him. Would be close to the best player available in the PS draft - depends whether our outlook is short- or long-term.

We've got enough junior forwards, Hughes, Limbach & Pattison, who could use that 3rd forward position in their development. No use in clogging it up with a geriatric from another club.

Didnt realise he wanted out of Adelaide!!!
We hav the greatest small/medium forward in the game in Nathan Brown along with, Pettifer, Krak and Tambling

Good player when firing but unfortunately doesnt fit our plans!!!!

Spot on!

Well, unless things change, one might guess...
1. Richo
2. Schulz
3. Any of Hughes, Limbach or Patto.

In my view, we've got Brown, Lids, Bling and Meyer who will all rotate through the leading forward role next year. I'd take this in rotation over a permanent option like Welsh which would be too predictable.

Welsh is a quality player; a lot of class which is something our list definitely lacks. But age and injuries could be taking their toll. If he was a cheap PSD pick the club should look closely at it. We could do a hell of a lot worse (and certainly have in the past).

What are people thoughts on offering this guy a 2 yr deal and picking him up in the pre-season draft?  Can be a devastating 3rd forward when fit.  Would it be worth the gamble?  Is he past it?  Is his body shot?  Would he come back to Victoria? He is 27 years of age.

I think you've answered your own questions there.
