Season over for the saints.

The Aints slide continues.

They need make tough decisions on aging players and rebuild.
If there was any lingering doubt, their premiership window is again closed, regardless of todays result.

They are the most overrated side in the comp IMO and have been for a couple of years now.
I expect them to fall away further next year too.

Yes - agree!

Plus it is living proof that priority picks and no. 1 draft picks are not the yellow brick road to a premiership.

Money and only big money wins premierships - look at those clubs about to play finals and how financial those clubs are and more importantly how much they pay the personnel in their football departments (the only non-regulated payment area left in the AFL). Then have a look at the financial plight of the bottom 4 clubs and see how well their football departments are financed.

It is not just about talent on the football field - it is all about the immediate support in the football department the on-field talent has to tap into.........

Fair enough but the Saints have had rotten luck with injuries to a lot of their key players. If they could have consistently had their best side fit and firing they could have achieved a lot more.

Could say the same for plenty of sides.
The problem the Saints have is whilst their top few are exceptional they fall away considerably after that.
Not enough depth in the list to be considered a top side.

Agree

Not so sure who,s a clear cut winner in the most "Dissapointing" side of 07.
Stkilda,Freo and Doggies all have claims.
Im leaning towards Freo.
With the talent at their disposal and Home ground factor,Not making the the top 8 let alone the top 4 is just about inexcusable.

There's no doubt its us. Knocking on the door of the top 8 in 2006, we should have been up there this year.

a harsh assesment imo. for the last 3 yrs they have been cruelled by injurys to make finals and go within a whisker this yr speaks volumes about their players. its also hard to continue to grow your list when you are always finishing in the 8.

yet i agree with you players like harvey 36. m clarke 34. garddiner 29. gehrig31. hammill 30. hudghton 31. thompson35. and voss 30. are old injured and in the main past it. they need to go and all of them could well be. throw in the other 5 or 6 that need to go and yes the saints need to go backwards to go forward. with so many injuries they probably needed to do a carlton to a degree this yr and ensured a bottom 4 pick.
they are in need of a ruckman of quality clarke is past it gardiner forever injured and probably past it brooks well not up to it and rix a battler their need for a ruckman long term and if retirements delistings kick in short term is severe. riewoldt kosi and watts has the kpf covered but there is no one else. down back kpd are maguire fisher. allen who can play forward as well. and goddard. imo they are screaming out for a fb with reirements and delistings they will lack depth in their tall man department.theres plenty of deadwood in this area.

yep they should be going into a short rebuilding process i just wonder if they are smart enough to recognise this.

Yep Freo gets my vote.
I thought they'd challenge for the premiership!
Shows how much I know.. :P

Melbourne have had an absolute shocker this season as well.

We will win for sure now that their season is shot to pieces. Expect a few late changes i reckon.

Yep St Kilda tank time. If Brisbane beats Geelong at home, Fremantle beats Port away and Essendon beat West Coast away and St Kilda lose to the Tiger, Saints would finish 12th. Anyone wanna give me odds on that happening?
10,000/1
:hihi .... k i bet $1
Thats gutsy

So, did you get your $1?

Gehrig gone. Thompson gone. likely Hammil.

I reckon Harvs would have been doing some soul searching at 3/4 tim too.

Whilst he could probably go around again he must recognise the Aints are going nowhere in 08.

Should give that year to a set of fresh legs IMO.
