SEASON OVER

6 teams are locks. Maybe suns getting a grip on 7. Maybe 6 battling fiOr the final place.

We won't make the 8. Coming from too far back and history over the past 30 years has shown that RFC teams trying to make the 8 from a similar position always fall short. In each of our 3 finals appearances since 1982 we have been well ahead of the curve all season. When we have to scrap to try and get in we always fail.

Plus this list does not have the mental fortitude and desire to beat the odds.

A team with a strong culture, strong leadership and utter determination to win would be able to turn it around from here, so on that basis we are almost certain to miss the finals.

Even if we do make it we'll be just scrapping in & therefore just making up the numbers.

This was supposed to be the year we consolidated our spot in the 8 & established ourselves as a real contender - no matter how you want to cut it this ain't going to happen.

Can't agree there. Last year we over-acheived. 2014 was supposed to be our first foray into the finals. Could still happen. We want to get there whille Lids is still young enough to have a few years of high quality output.

We have 15 games left and play only one team currently in the top 5
We've lost 4 games to top 5 teams (at the moment) Collingwood Geelong hawks Suns)

The real blemish was the bulldogs game but we can make it up

Who would have to drop out of the race for the Tigers to make the eight? The top 5 spots are almost a lock in now with the GC the almost surprise, all with 6 and 5 wins each.

All are 4 and 3 wins ahead of us, so not much chance of displacing any of those. Then we have Freo, Syd and Nth all on 4 making up the eight, again, 2 wins ahead of us. Finally breathing down the necks of the bottom 3 in the eight are WC...no hope, Essendon....possibility, and Adelaide...not on current form. So, the eight looks pretty well settled by my reckoning, despite all the hope.

Do you autually this side is capable of going on a 7-8. Game winning spree?
Melbourne and the GWS are huge chances to beat us. Have you watched us play thus year?
Teams are ticking the W box when they come up against us.
North, essendon, Sydney, freo, port all to come., yeah right!!

Mate, Melbourne and GWS next. It just aint gonna happen!
Melbourne and GWS don't worry me all that much. We beat Melbourne comfortably last year even though we played poorly (that was the game Ellis really announced his arrival with a 39 possession game) and smashed GWS by over 100. It's what comes after and the fact that we're really not a side that strings long winning sequences together that bothers me.

Brisbane 1995, comparable
Brisbane 1997, comparable
West Coast 1998, on the way down
Essendon 1998, on the way up
West Coast 2004, on the way up

All finished 8th except WC 1998 (7th), so forgive me for not getting too excited about our rumoured imminent finals charge.
Scott Gullan in the HUN says at 2-5 puts us out of finals contention (I assume he meant statistically). And theres some other stat that after rd 7(?) the 8 is usually the same as it is after rd 22 except for 1 side.

Dropping those games against GC and the WB are real killers. If only we had the second half running game going from the start of the season.
Yeah we'd be 4 - 3 and the equation would be a lot simpler. It's the Bulldogs one that really annoys me. GC have and will trouble plenty of sides at Metricon, but the Dogs game was a bad loss.

Agree. "Season over", that's cry-baby stuff. Our season began today. 200% improvement.
I don't think we'll get to those odds. If we get to $4 I'll have a crack.
We have 15 games left. Two each against Essendon, Sydney, St Kilda and GWS, one each against Melbourne, Brisbane, Freo (at the G), Port (Etihad), Adelaide (they're sh!t), North, West Coast (also sh!t). We can win 10 of those.

Assuming the 10/1 falls through, spook, you can get $3.75 at Sportingbet. Only $3 the TAB.

Once again their grand finals.
They put every kitchen sink into beating us and we didn't.
That's the problem being Richmond.

Tall Poppy Syndrome.

I fully know we've been poo for over 30 years with patches of greatness but Richmond is a team that others love to knock off.
We have to mentally get over this.

Umpires don't help either to be honest.
Have the same Richmond chip on the shoulders as well.

Making the finals is a fantasy, and we have fallen short in the big games for the last two years.
Time to turn the list over and see what we have.
If we win some games then good.
If we lose I don't care so much as long as we are giving the younger guys a taste and develop them as players.
Still too many passengers in our team to go anywhere ATM.
Would rather finish down the bottom and get a young gun in an uncompromised draft than finish ninth or something.
Time to work out who the players are that can't take us deep into September....

Baloney.

4-5 isn't out of contention if you consider we have Mel & GWS in the next couple of rounds.

The run home is not that hard! Our only tough matches left are against Freo, Sydney & Port all at the MCG. It may well and truly come down to how they end up after Essendon and North who are in a similar position.

If they deserve to play finals, they will make it.

That's some inaccurate kicking right there. Must be Cotch playing forward.
