Set Shots: 30-50m

Set shot stats mean squat without knowing where they are taken from.

All teams have a much higher conversion rate from directly in front than from the pockets and flanks but the good teams take more shots from directly in front.

What's that based on?

If you're looking at the stat across all clubs for a season, you can probably assume the dispersion of shots thoughout the 50m arc is going to be pretty similar.

you think teams have the same conversion ratio from the flanks as the do from in front?

?

I believe teams will be having a similar spread of shots throughout the 50m arc, whether they are top or last on the ladder. Teams may use the corrider in transition from the backline to the forward line, but I doubt this translates into having more shots from in front of goal.

Clearly I would think more shots taken from in front will be converted, but I don't think the top teams have more shots from in front.

Sorry misunderstood your previous post, thanks for clarification.

But I think you are wrong. The good teams dominate the corridor, enter the 50m arc more effeciently and defend the hotspot in front of goal better. It is quite obvious when you look at the goal map during games that the good teams force poor teams to take more shots from the flanks.

No probs.

Be interesting to get some official data. I'm sure it would exist but where we'd get it from, I don't know.
