Shane Crawford to retire

Obviously, but true champions inspire the team mates.

Sorry, like them or dislike them, if you think Buckley or Harvey are not true champions I have no idea how you can come to that conclusion.

Brisbane's salary cap should have compensated for it. ;D

You need to change your avatar to a Pit Bull. ;D

*coughs...like a dog with a bone and lockjaw...coughs*

Premiership medalions. Not disputing they are superstars, but the whole meaning of a champion is to come first.

Very wise decision by the Hawthorn List Management Dept whom stuck to their guns despite individual player & mass supporter hysteria.

Hawthorn bent over backwards to accomodate Crawford in 2008. "Give an inch, they'll take a mile."
Again a lesson to Richmond of how disciplined the Hawthorn Football Dept is, and how that discipline leads to ultimate glory.

Did Hawthorn make the decision and not Shane, Phantom?

I think it was a good decision by Crawf. 300 games, captained the club, Brownlow, the Premiership, there wasn't much else he could have achieved. It also allows the Hawks to select other young deserving players who may have been kept out by a loyalty to select Crawford ahead of them.

Word has it that the Hawks have been pushing him ever since GF day.
He's been wanting to go on.
Eventually the beginning of pre-season training saw him out.
The Hawkers are very glad he bowed out prior to the draft.

a friend saw Crawf on that show on the couch and they asked him if you were in the GF this year and you won what would you do he said that is easy he would leave now i know that was when he knee was troubling him bad and he got treatment and it got better and after winning he may have thought about going on but i think he was going to leave with out being pushed , he could have played on and as they said to him you will have to earn the spot and with him i think he would not have it any other way if he had of played on so i don't know if what you heard was true Phantom [ possible ] but thats just my opinion and i know i can be wrong .

i have had a feeing since 3 or 4 months ago that this may have been his last year call it womens intuition , i am just so happy he got a GF win before he went .

Always annoyed me that we didnt have Shane at the Tigers.

Had a fantastic career for a guy that we turned away for being too small.
Don't let a good story get in the way of the truth.

I wonder if the salary cap was beginning to bite? ;)
Hawthorn only just paid over the minimum total salary amount allowed in the AFL.

They actually only spent more money than North in 2008.

So in answer to your question...probably not. ;)

Not much will change over the break.

Crawfords salary wasn't even in the cap anyway due to veteran status.

Franklin, Roughead, Williams, Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis, Bateman etc etc have all signed quickly when their contracts have been up for renewal, and for less than market value.

It's another thing that has changed in the last 4 years....contracts and player management has been crucial by the current administration.
