Would like to people's opinion of whether anyone would consider Shane for an assistants role next year.

If they pursue and get a young coach , being for arguments sakes a Buckley or a Hardwick do you think he would make a good assistant under a young coach.

He seems to have written what his 3 or 4th article on the Tigers and his credentials are something i think the Tigers should have a look at.

1- Was a passionate Tigers supporter.

2- Captain

3- Premiership player

4- Best & Fairest

5- Brownlow medalist

So you see he ticks all the boxes.

Just like to know what you all think. Give some reasons as to why you have voted for yes, no or possibly.

Thanks

*smile* farts around a bit but I reckon when he's serious, he makes some very valid points. Could do well as an assistant.

We could do alot worse. I've always thought of him as a bit of a clown but he did some special comments work on 3AW a few years ago and impressed me with his thoughts on the game. And his reputation as a training and fitness freak would be good to have down at the club.

Went possibly. Too many variables to consider and I know nothing about the guy.

If he gets a go at out club in an assistants role, I'll be happy enough in believeing the club did its homework and he was considered the best candidate.

He's got an ego bigger than any five people you've met. Regardless of his playing ability and his football nouse ideally you would want someone who is prepared to think about the club at least as much as they think about themselves. Never going to be 50:50 with Shane Crawford.

Makes some good points in his news articles but his media work would draw too much attention and cause too much distraction & he's not about to give that all up for an assistant coaching job at Richmond I can assure you.

Yes ! - for all the reasons waiting said. Agree. Help change the culture.

People should forget the image he protrays on the footy show.

With King not getting the caretaker gig could be gone. Royal should be gone. Thats 2 vacancies.

On a lighter note on his first day at the job, have Jim Jess meet him & say sorry ! :-) LOL. Apparently in his first game JJ roughed him up & when he went home tore the poster done of JJ. LOL

Rubbish. Is actually a very loyal, committed, generous and humble bloke away from the cameras.

Does he write his own articles, or are they ghost-written by staff journos?

He strikes me as someone who would struggle to write with anything more advanced than a crayon but somehow his byline appears next to insightful, well-structured articles.

Seems odd to me.

Crawford is another who I like, when he speaks seriously about football.
Unfortunately it is often clouded by his regular performances as a media clown.

We all take directions in life. Crawford has preferred to be a media performer.
Nothing wrong with that. Gary Lyon, Brian Taylor, Brownless & Darcy have all done the same.
But it is in quite a different direction to that of a coaching direction.

Clarkson, Bailey, Voss, McKenna and others have chosen coaching rather than the media because that's the direction they wish to follow.

Didn't know he was a tiges supporter.

TFS is all an act, especially Sam treating him like a dunce. For all those worried about his ego, he was damning of the lack of team focus at the tiges, sparking the argument with Sam who reckoned players should play for themselves first.

I reckon he's well-worth considering as an assistant, although I get Wallhalla's point about media-focussed personalities. Still, we should be careful not to throw out the baby with the Wallace bathwater.

Seems like a bit of a clown and did not strike me as a particularly smart player.

However, when he is serious he does seem to know a bit about the game and was an exceptional trainer.

Personally I think he is happy with his media committments and would getmore money for less work if he stayed on TV.

I think there are far better options out there.
