Shane Edwards

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

Edwards is an 'almost' player - has never truly arrived because of the amount of things he does which don't come off (partly because he often attempts high risk, high return plays). If he could just improve his efficiency I'm sure there's a place for him going forward, though I suspect his kicking will always hold him back.

Really hard to see him getting over his chronic kicking shank so late in his career, but to his credit he has worked hard to play a role over the last few weeks.

Maybe needs a new club to see him in a different light and reinvent his game because he may have reached a dead end at Tigerland

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

Feel good victories can cloud some of the issues - such as Edwards overall form (and especially Farmer but this is the wrong thread).

add jackson and tuck to that list. late feel good wins do more damage to our list management than good.

I agree with this. Usually only takes a game like this for the "list ain't that bad - all is well" mentality to set in at Richmond.

Yep agree, apparently we are on track.

Gotta cull & torch the deadwood - at least 10 to go.

Yep, winning can cover the deficiencies that were oh so obvious when we were losing. Let's hope the names people here recognise as should be gone are, despite a late season win.

Despite the win, there was some some mind boggling skill errors and decisions made.

Happy to win, lifts the spirits a tad, but still need to cull the list by 12-15 in my opinion.

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

I know Edwards has been in the system for five years but last year was the first pre-season that I noticed a significant increase in body size. He is still small and if they believe he can put on another 3 or 4kg then I would be really disappointed if we didn't keep him.

Guys with his running ability are hard to find. He does do the more difficult AFL things well. It is the coaches job to iron out his kicking deficiencies this summer and sports-science guys to get the weight on him so he handles the rough and tumble better.

I will only judge him after that weight is on.

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

Happy with Edwards and Tuck today, tucky might not be in the big picture but I think getting wins along the way is important for the kids.

I think it's a true reflection of Edward's ability that people think he has had a "good" game when he doesn't make as many diabolical clangers in a given game.

It's got to the stage where we are almost expecting these clangers to happen (given their frequency this year), so when they don't happen as often, the guy has supposedly played well.

Rubbish. Name me any other key midfielder who picks up 12 possessions, fails to hit routine targets, and is applauded for having a "good" game. It says it all really when another previous post mentioned yesterday was Edwards best game of the year.

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

Somewhere in the back pages of the Jake King thread I remember writing that I loved his endeavour and the way he gets the ball, it's just the way he gets rid of it that bothers me and surely someone can teach him how to do that better. Well someone did. Surely they can with Titch too.

If you read earlier posts you will see why people rated his game yesterday . He was given a task of blanketing Kennelly's run off half back which is very important to the Swans and he did that job really well . His tackling was good , his pressure on the ball carrier was very good and he layed off some really telling and clever handballs . Did most of his work inside . He was also given the job of being 3rd man up in the ruck contests because of his spring and that was important in nullifying Mumford. His was a team game yesterday , not about individual stats . I would be surprised if the coaching staff weren't really happy with the job he did .

He hasn't had a good year at all but this was not his best game which was against Freo when he had something like 6-7 goal assists.

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

I don't know, I have my opinion, you have yours. ;D

For the record, I think titch is apart of our long term plans, why else would they keep playing him. Thank god everyone on PRE isnt on the selection committee, we wouldn't field a team :rofl

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

He reminds me very much (and unfortunately) of Aaron Fiora... he seems to struggle to put muscle on he frame and/or retain anything he puts on pre season.

His disposal by both hand and foot leaves misses its mark and/or puts pressure on team mates way too often. And then that attempted dribble at goal was disgraceful, my question is, would he have attempted that if the score was closer.

Just seems to be stagnating, or worse, going backwards.

I don't know exactly what his contract status is, I think he has at least one more year left, but he's lucky to be getting games ahead of others...

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

I thought his pressure was excellent and some of his link play v good.
However he just can't seem to string the excellent parts of his game together consistently.
One moment he does something of wonder that few can in the team, the next he's making a monumental blunder.
The time is running out for him to iron out the kinks, perhaps it's already up.
Should be considered trade bait.

Re: Shane Edwards (Merged)

His mistakes are less glaring up forward up forward, just like King.

Still need an upgrade though.
