PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Now that the AFL season for the Tiges is over, it is time for the annual Shane Tuck Award.

For the uninitiated, the Shane Tuck Award began in 2004.

Last year, we determined that the criteria for the award would be altered.
Initially, it was awarded to Shane Tuck in a year that saw him dominate the VFL competition yet not given a go in the seniors until the end of the season. It was basically the "hard-luck" award, or the "coach didn't give you a fair go" award.

This year, the criteria is the player that overcame the highest obstacles or adversity to win senior selection.

Winners have been:
2004 Shane Tuck - inaugural
2005 Nathan Foley
2006 Cam Howat
2007 Matt White

Last year the Shane Tuck Award went to Matt White, an unfashionable player that overcame the initial perceptions of the coaching staff to win a place in the team. This year Matty has furthered his position by being a regular in the Richmond guernsey.

Must admit that there are a few challengers this year:
1. Kelvin Moore, overcame recurring injuries and almost the chop at last year's delistings to now be a regular in the much improved Tiger defense.
2. Jay Schulz, went from a one-trick pony in 2007 to the Tigers' tall utility in 2008 adding flexibilty to the Tigers around the ground. And most would recognise the value of tall utilities.
Some of you may have very different thoughts.

Anyway, we're taking nominations now. These will run until the end of September when the award will be presented.

All are welcome.
