Shaping the culture of the list

Reading the posts about delisting/trading so many of the more experienced players makes me wonder if people forget we've really concentrated on youth the last couple of seasons.

We have a heap of kids who haven't proven themselves yet.  There are also a lot of immature bodies amongst them.

These kids were speculative picks for our future but they need some experience around them.  For that reason I won't be surprised if we hold on an extra year to players we'd prefer to delist and if we get a couple of re-cycled players.

We all know that some players don't seem to have what it takes.  We all know that some come from a sustained culture of failure.  We all know some are too slow or too left sided or too unskilled.

The fact is we can't just have a team of lightweight under 20's.

In some ways I think poor attitude is a more important criteria than slight lack of skill or pace for delisting this year.

Acceptance of a losing culture is a poison we need to stop infecting the kids.  They need to learn that despite any deficiencies they always have to give 100% and that losing shouldn't be tolerated.

In another year or two our list won't be recognisable from the past era of failure and we have to make sure the culture doesn't linger on after the culprits have gone.

Good luck Terry and Greg...I have great faith you'll know what needs to be done and I expect whatever happens this year will only be a small piece in the jigsaw of future success and there will be far more scope for further change next year.

I suspect this week Wallace and Miller will start the season in review and we will begin to know their thinking and action !"

Stay tuned as we all will be.

Nice post Rosy.

There should not be many changes this year. Some players in their mid-20s with a bit of experience will have more competition for places in 2006 from our young recruits from the past two years.

It would be great to see our younger players start to compete for spots in the team. The form of Coburg in 2005 shows that too few kids were able to demand a senior spot.

I really think we will miss campbell next year
experince counts for alot in this game

Cannot offload all the oldies to make way for the kids or else we'll get belted to the schizenhausen. This will surely inject the poison of losing into the youngens and really turn the culture to a southerly direction.

TW has been the best thing since Sunblest being intoduced into school yards, and I too have the faith in both men TW and GM to take us into the next phase of 'the plan' in 2006.

Be very careful Rosy. If you're going to suggest we might keep Tiv, Krak, Chaff, Staff, Hilts and Pets the bugles will sound, the hounds will be released and the pack will be upon you before you can even begin to run. ;)

It's a dangerous thing to be rational around here. You should know better!

It's dangerous to be irrational as well, trust me.

I dont think there is anything rational about keeping under-performing players Hopper. The only 1 who deserves to be kept on the list based on 2005 is Pettifer...there you go I said it!   But having said that TW has said on many occassions he prefers playing more experienced bodies hence his fascination with Rory and his ignoring Meyer, Raines, Roach, Pattison etc etc.  So don't worry..I dont think any of your above mentioned players are going anywhere.

TT, with all due respect, in running the great RFC I expect TW & GM to be rational.

Our most speculative late picks last year got us McGuane and Limbach. They spent most of their footy this year in the Coburg ressies and are highly unlikely to challenge for a senior spot in the near future - if ever. If all we can get for the kinds of players we are talking about is a late pick, which would likely be the case, then we can expect to go backwards in the next couple of years.

Do I get frustrated by Krak and Tiv - you betcha. But nobody is going to hand us Johnathan Brown for Chaffey or a no.1 pick for Hilton. Some of them have to stay to keep some experience around the babies, and to maintain a slowly building winning culture. I'm not trying to make Tiv and co out to be world beaters, it's just that we have to play it where it lies.

I reckon some of us get way out into fantasy land when thinking about how we can truly improve our list.

OK but some change is needed so some will go
Campbell retired
Graham retired
Morrison cut
Gilmour maybe onto rookie list as he is still a kid - least performed of the 2003 draft ??
but we still need two to four more to go so that we can draft, trade and still get a 23-25 year old onto the list
So Tivendale (only a left foot), Chaffey (slow) and a couple of others need to be looked at, from Hilton (not playing enough due to injury), Hyde (small light player), Hartigan, (disposal ??) Moore (needs a few years in the gym), Knobel (tall but doesnt get the ball) or Foley(small light player). I like most of them but changes have to continue, so someone will be unlucky.

moore is bigger tahn most ppl give him credit for, although, it depends on where he plays whether he is big enough for that possie.
