maybe

yet the fact remains if you look at grand final winning or drawing teams. the players that got more of the ball, are far better than grigg

Daniel Hannebery / Ryan O'Keefe Josh Kennedy / Jarrad McVeigh

Jordan Lewis / Grant Birchall / Luke Hodge / Isaac Smith/ Cyril Rioli / Bradley Hill / Shaun Burgoyne

Joel Corey / Gary Ablett / Joel Selwood / Corey Enright / Jimmy Bartel / James Kelly / Cameron Ling

Lenny Hayes / Brendon Goddard / Leigh Montagna / Nick Dal Santo

Grigg would not get a game for the current top four clubs as he is not good enough currently - they have better mids, wingers, hhf-ers

I doubt richmond will ever threaten for a flag if we continue to build around Grigg and Chaplin in the senior side, let alone the list. Which is a shame as there is a lot of upside, talent and opportunity but the window isnt open forever

You are right about the teams Optimus, but wrong about the players. It is the teams, team cultures and structures that get them to GF's. There is a list your arm long of "premiership" players that Grigg could beat on his day. His improvement over the last two years has been outstanding given most of us saw him as an outside player with a spasmodic though useful left foot and no upside.

Why have you only listed 4 midfielders for Swans and Saints? Midfield with rotations consists of more than 4 players. You're also mixing in a few defenders into the list. You need to compare like for like.

Don;t you know what he does now. He picks and chooses what he wants.

That list was pretty much those sides best players. Grigg is not in our best players. If he was comparing that lost to our group from Sunday, you would be talking Cotch, Lids, Martin, Edward, Ellis etc, but no Grigg is included in all arguments.

Whilst a lot think Grigg will finish top 10 in the B&F that doesn't mean he is in our Top 10 players, he is definately 1 of our foot soldiers and generally does his job pretty well.

It is funny because if we did pick up Bennell, I'd bet my bottom dollar Grigg would still get a game. Bennell would more likely take the spot of guys like Conca, or there's a great vacancy there in the elimination team as a result of Newman's retirement. Really Grigg's fortunes next year may depend on how quickly the Menadue's and Corey Ellis's progress. But Hardwick has shown a preference for experience and no-one (except you it seems) can deny Grigg has had a solid year.

Meanwhile McBean and Lennon would still be missing out

To fit in grigg-the-plodder

Like most I've hooked him before however reckon Grigg had a good year and a poor final. Same could be said of Chimp, Lids etc.

Comparing grigg to deledio and Cotchin is just dumb

Groundhog Day for this guy and his best mate. Never stands up in big games! Time to flick them both to GWS

Where Grigg works out is when the gun midfielders fire. The opposition has to mind them and as a consequence Grigg gets loose. If he's allowed to pick up possessions he can make the opposition hurt. He often kicks goals in games like that and links up with other players who do it. That clearly didn't happen on Sunday. He's a decent regular senior selection at present, but if he doesn't want to be one of those players that we upgrade he has to be able to be damaging when the other guys are sat on.

the saint team in its full pomp was very strong and was at the top of the ladder for a long time

the swans was full of hard, tough, gritty players that were good enough to beat a full strength Judd/Cousins/Cox/Kerr

Grigg wouldnt get anywhere near those sides, at his 'best'

not one of the Grigg fans has told me who would get dropped, from the best 22 of this years top 4 for grigg to get a game. Fyfe? Hodge? Hannerby?

So we're reverting to strawman arguments now.

Last time I checked beany and Lennon were forwards, Grigg is a midfielder.

You compared Grigg to every other team's star players, why is it dumb if someone else says it?

shame half of them went to the other team

Source?

Would be if it were true. He had 17 disposals and 10 were effective. Even if every one of those ineffective disposals went to the opposition (which it didn't) your assertionwould stil be wrong. Grigg had 17 disposals and 3 clangers. Deledio had 17 and 5. Edwards 8 and 3. Cotchin 9 and 3. McIntosh 15 and 3. Ellis 10 and 3, Martin 21 and 5. All those had higher clanger to disposal ratios than Grigg. So begs the question why focus just on Grigg for poor disposal?

Of course he would. Every side has their stars and foot soldiers. Grigg is a solid foot soldier and with a good quality team around would have performed well on this year's form in any of those teams.

There you go, TL, clouding the issue with facts.

Yeah, but what are your thoughts about Grigg?

Grigg has had a pretty good year hasn't he? wasn't just him who had a shocker on Sunday.

I like Grigg but his the man we need to trade had a great year but there be a few clubs that would jump at him Brisbane for Reddon

Only plays one way.
Lack of footy nous.
Can't stick a tackle.
Getting old.
Can't nail down a position.
Error prone.
Quiet for years.
Not respected by any opposition.
Has no trade value.
Lacks in basic skills.
Cracks under pressure.
Has failed to make a real statement.

We need to cut our losses.
