I always like Collins and I suggested at the end of last season that Collins could be a good trade option. And we did well to get a player we needed in Grigg. However, with Taylor walking out and Morton not showing his game has rounded out, Collins would have been coming into my Round 3 side as that 3rd/4th forward. Those who did not want Houli and preferred Grigg to go to PSD allowing us to keep Collins may have been right on the money.

Meh!

Helbig can be the new Collins.
Different player who is already in the team.
I'm looking for that marking 3rd tall and my preferred order before the season was to play Taylor, Morton and Collins. With Taylor gone and Morton doing the same inconsistent stuff from 2 years ago I'm wondering who's next on the list. Morton's probably real happy Collins is gone right now.

That is a bit hard on him. He was forced to play deeper in attack tonight when Riewoldt went down, and while he did not appear to do much, he was marked by Gwilt so Lyon obviously respected his ability. Gwilt did not have his usual rebound influence on the game tonight IMO.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Grigg was excellent tonight. As I've said before, I really like the boy.

Nevertheless, I maintain that as a trade, it was the wrong one to do. What we gained in one respect we lost in another. Plenty of players can get you to the line, few can take you over. You need both sorts, sure. But one is more valuable - rarer - than the other.

Nothing in my argument, you'll note, suggests that Collins is better than Grigg. What I'm saying is something slightly different. Two different players. One 'better' than the other, but not, thereby, more valuable.

Great game by Grigg.

What the hell????????!!!!!!

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

I'm referring more to Morton's brain fades. At his age and experience he needs to be making better team choices consistently. Yes he was played out of position but no excuse for making bad choices when the ball is in his vicinity or in his hands. He is allowed to be out muscled or outmarked due to having to play on a KPD... but some of his decision making was very suspect.

I still don't think Collins would have been a long term gun but short term, the way things have gone with Taylor and Morton (so far...) all I'm saying is he may have been useful next week. I'm more concerned about Houli than Collins or Grigg.

I think this is known in the vernacular as "Having a bob each way"

Fair enough Juffa. I will admit that he can make some spectacularly poor decisions .

This.

Excellent game by Grigg. We now know he lacks a yard or four in pace which is why Tuck will never get a look in alongside him & Jackson in the one side. He is also unpolished by foot, but he does find it & can peg it long if at times inaccurately. A good pickup.

The comparisons with Collins are irrelavent, but as Joffa said the Houli one's are. Time will tell how it plays as Collins would no doubt be handy in our 22 at present.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Grigg looked an absolute treat tonight. Definitely knows how to get the ball, and has a silkiness to him that I really like.

His kicking and pace is a bit of a worry - but he looks like quite an adequate replacement for Tuck, at least in the midfield.

I still think Tuck would be a good third tall in the forward line and should be used there before he's thrown on the scrap heap.

If Collins hadn't had that breakout game against Sydney would people still be so positive of his abilities? No doubt he was fantastic that game, but when we neared the end of season 2010, Collins was doing very little and was probably close to being dropped.

So far we've won this trade, it's round 2, but our guy has played 2 games with his new club, theirs is yet to debut. Good luck to Collo though, I hope he starts getting a game soon.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Personally my take is their is no way grigg would have got through in the psd.

He was close to bog tonight, form he had shown last year too. He's in a different league to Collins or houli.

If we had tried to force him into the psd he would have finished elsewhere, which would have been a shame because he gives our midfield heaps

I think there is some doubt considering he's not getting a game for Carlton and our team is seemingly on the improve.
You're not serious suggesting he'd be playing up forward ahead of Morton are you? Even Helbig is showing plenty of promise.
I saw Andy as a struggling mid/makeshift forward.
We have no idea if other clubs were interested in trading for Grigg or not to know whether he'd have made PSD.
