Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

The thing I noticed most tonight about Grigg, is he really wanted to be there. He gave it all - and I love that.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Admit to not being a fan of the Grigg trade when it happened. More to do with his suspect kicking rather than letting Collins go who I thought wouldnt be anymore then a 18-22 type player anyway.

Grigg is still kicking the odd floater but he knows how to win the footy and not rely on handball receives which is a welcome change in new recruits! At the scum he was more outside due to the midfield they have but tonight he showed where he belongs with some great tackling and good clearance work.

Grigg was fantastic, Houli was meh.

Watch a replay Barnzy and focus on Houli. He did some pretty good stuff in terms of winning contested possession.

I thought he was a bit under-rated tonight.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Looks alot taller than first thought as footballer.
Reminds me so much that Polak is still out there....(please dont shoot me)

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Early days, but happy with the trade so far.

This.

Excellent game by Grigg. We now know he lacks a yard or four in pace which is why Tuck will never get a look in alongside him & Jackson in the one side. He is also unpolished by foot, but he does find it & can peg it long if at times inaccurately. A good pickup.

The comparisons with Collins are irrelavent, but as Joffa said the Houli one's are. Time will tell how it plays as Collins would no doubt be handy in our 22 at present.

When you trade one player for another, how can comparisons be irrelevant? Probably never more appropriate to compare two players, even if they do play a different role.

I reckon if you did a vote now, Grigg would be leading our B&F, one good game and one close to BOG. Off to a flying start.

Good management or good luck, I'm not sure, but with the modern game favoring a long and penetrating kick into the forward line Grigg has arrived at the perfect time. A bloke who can do this 30 times a match is critical to our structure.

And all this talk of the PSD, we didn't even have the first pick!!! Who knows how it would have panned out if we tried to play it that way, certainly nobody on here.

If Collins was a small forward of the Milne or Betts variety I would have wondered of the wisdom of the trade. But a part time midfielder, slash, small forward of the flanker variety? We are killing it on this trade at the moment.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

I think everyone likes the trade based on 2 Rounds.
It's just the fact that Taylor has gone walkabout and that Morton is still up to his old antics is making some of us think we could do with another "team oriented" option down there and unless Matty Dea can play Half Forward is there anyone left on our list to come in and play that High Half Forward marking role?

I guess we can always roll out another midget who can run like the wind in little Benny Nason instead. More speeeedd!

Mc Donald?

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Collins wouldn't be getting a game this year and would have others ahead of him in the queue. This will rank with the Hogg for Dundas (and others) trade as one of our best.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

grigg can get the ball and use and brings grunt with him perfect for us him and lids can swap from back to mid to foward just gives us more options

The Hogg for Broderick and others trade.

I agree though. Reckon Andy might have been lucky to get much of a game with us this year.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

think grigg's kicking is not as bad as people make it out to be. he is super composed in tight and doesn't look to always blaze away. looks to find a teamate and has a nice short ranged kick. gets a bit wobbly when he tries to kick long. was very solid in the contests and won some important hard ball.

Re: Collins for Grigg (Merged)

Another indicator the worm is starting to turn, we actually get the better part of a trade. Wow, what a game.
