sheahans top 50 all time

Apart from Carey at 1, Nicholls in the top ten, and Williams at 10, this isn't a bad list really. I'm impressed by the fact that guys like Mueller made the list, that Hird and Reynolds are not overrated as often happens, but no Laurie Nash, a glaring omission.

Interested to see Rioli and Weightman made the list of almosts.

Dwayne Russel had something interesting to say on this point. The list is going to be published in the 150 Years of Australian Football book so it is probably going to attain some sort of official status. Another anomaly in it is Ben Cousins at 42 with Riccuito not even in the top 50, that is a joke.

Top ten was all wrong and easily fixed should have looked something like this:

Royce Hart
Jack Dyer
Kevin Bartlett
Tony Free
Francis Bourke
Roy Wright
Jack Titus
*smile* Clay
Vic Thorp
Richard Tambling

hayden Bunton first

At the very least a clear top 5; two Brownlows in his first two years gives some indication of his talent, and they were touting him as the greatest player in the country before he'd even played a game at the highest level. I've got a book on Bunton with a heap of stats, was apparently not listed among the best players in just 16 of his 119 games, and was listed as best on ground 48 times.

Three Sandovers in the four years between his stints in the VFL also gives some indication of his ability. If he'd stayed in Victoria during that time he may well have won another one, even two medals and there'd be no doubt who everyone would say should be number one.

agree with bunton also laurie nash. there was also another bloods player from dyers era who dyer rated as the most skillfull footballer he'd ever seen and considering he passed on not too long ago you'd think he'd seen a few over his time. it might of been nash actually.

mike sheehan writes these things out on dunny paper then uses it to ... ahem :hihi
