PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Was perusing Sheehans best 25 and noted that it around the mark with most supporters. There are of course always arguments on the last 5-6 spots and that's usually a variable dependant on form. Mike had Coughlan out obviously based on injury queries.

I looked at the ages of the backline and taking out Joel our oldest is 23. With Macmahon taking Joel's spot in time, we have at present potentially our whole backline 24 years or younger. Of these King, Thursty and Newman are real quality. Concerns rest with Moore and Schulz, but I have hopes for Moore and lying in the wings as possible kpp defenders are Polak, Rance Mcguane and Riewoldt again all young and all with some talent.

Our mids have quality in Foley, grunt in Tuck and will have an injection of pace with Tambling in there. If Cogs holds up we add grunt and class and in the wings we have Cotchin, Edwards and Connors who are presently outside Sheehans 25.

Our forward line again has lots of class but probably deficient in defensive pressure with all probably below par in that area.

Looking down the track the only big lossess we will have due to retirement (other than injury) down the track are Simmonds, Brown, Richo and Bowden.

Going through them one by one Simmonds is the biggest to replace. Only possibles at this stage in Pattison and Graham. Cartedge just back up so developing another ruck or trading for a quality ruck is paramount over next two years unless Patto or Gus show they can fill the breach.

Brown is a mighty player but one fiills Deledio can step into his role and we have a number of others who can come into the side and be damaging HF or FP like Edwards, Connors, Cotchin, Collard.

Richo is Richo, but we have a ready made guy who is a great contested mark and cant kick straight in Polak ;) and waiting in the wings are young talls in Riewoldt, Hughes and Putt.

Bowden is a fine player but we have no end of options as back flankers/mids including Casserly, JON, White, Meyer, Collins etc.

Still some questions over quality of our picks and still some list soft spots and weaknesses especially with ruck and kp defenders, but

if one of Gus or Patto or Putt can become a decent ruckman

and one of Moore, Lukey Mcg, Rance or Schulz can become a decent defensive tall

and one of Riewoldt, Polak or Hughes become a quality forward

we are laughing.

Some iffs but not all doom and gloom

AND of course we have tons of flankers ;D
