I'll go against the grain and say that the Saints will be the shooters this season. They have the albatross that was Thomas off their back. With a reasonable run with unjuires I think they can finish top 2.Goddard to have a breakout year.

Freo will also have a good year.Tarrant and Murphy will release some of the inordinate amount of pressure that has been placed on Pavlich's shoulders.Sandilands will go from strength to strength. They have some talented young blokes moving into their midfield.Connolly's coaching has slowly improved.

Tempted to pick Pies for the sliders but their draw is just too sweet.Even playing ordinary football they look likely to be able to eek out an even win-loss ratio. Will probably vie with us,Geelong,Hawthorn and Port for the 7/8th position.

I have a feeling the Swans will be the sliders this season.I don't have any real solid reasoning other than they've been surving on team ethic and tactics, -ther talent depth is a little over rated.Something has to give.

Good summary. Freo good things for top 4 I reckon. Can't believe the optimisim surrounding the Bummers. The most overrated group of youngsters going around plus their best players are all past their best.
Spot on JB excluding a few of there new boys,I have only just started to realsie how arrogant this mob is Lloyd tops them of a treat

What no-one game to pick us as a shooter? One spot higher and we rocket into the finals and nobody brave enough to call us, 'cept me.
Freo to consolidate their finals position.
Sydney to wobble- injury gods have been to lenient recently plus may hit a bit of a flat spot.
Saints one last chance to play in a granny before the rot sets in.
Dees to slide, not sure why but just don't rate them that highly.

Perhaps TM most don't associate one spot higher as shooting.

Well calling freo as shooting into the top 4 when they are already in the top 4 isn't either John Brown's body.

I'm confident of making the finals, but just which isn't shooting as JB says.

Can't decide on a shooter, need to give it more thought. Have we decided on a shooter? 4 spots plus up or down?

Slider: adelaide, drop out of the 8.

Shooter: ess, last to 11 or 12

You're quite right snake man. Looks like I'll have to tip Freo for the flag then.

There'll be some sliders and shooters, but this year I reckon there'll be little change to the 8 in any case.

Possibly Geelong in to replace Scumwood....maybe Adelaide drop out...dunno....but otherwise between 6-8 of the same teams will make up the 8 again this year I reckon.

Bulldogs, WC, Sydney and Tigers to finish top 4 after h and a. That makes Bulldogs and us to be shooters :clap Hawks to challenge for 8, so also a shooter. 8 maybe Dogs, WC, Sydney,Tigers, Adelaide ,Stkilda, Freo and Melb (to make up 8 after h and a.)

Ad and Freo to drop down with Tarrant and Soloman a waste for Feo and the absence of ruckmen to hurt the Crows. C'wood to miss out on final 8. St kilda and Geelong to slip.

North to fight it out with Carlton for spoon with C'wood and Ess to fill in the minor places.

shooters... i don't think too many teams will make a great leap. teams like richmond, st kilda and the dogs should rise 1-2 spots, with essendon to make the biggest rise to around 11th-12th.

sliders... there will be a few: north melbourne (likely to win spoon), port adelaide(don't understand why people rate them, they will slide down further), hawthorn (back in bottom 4), and the team to make the biggest slide will be collingwood (but have drafted and delisted fairly intelligently the past 2 years imo)

I'll go for Adelaide to be the sliders of 2007. They're generally old, have lost their two ruckman from last year, lack firepower up forward and rely too much on an ageing midfield.

As for the big improvers I reckon the Hawks will go close to the 8 - great young list.

The Saints will also rise up the ladder - better coach and a good run with injuries should see them rise up. Gardiner will have a great year too in the ruck which will really helo their gun midfielders such as Ball, Dal Santo and Hayes.

Two definate sliders this year will be Geelong and St Kilda.

I still can't work out what they saw in Ross Lyon.............

After the years of crap and false promise we've had to endure I would rate gaining half a percentage point as shooting if it got us into the finals.
Just remember anything can happen when you make the finals, scumwood almost pinched a flag a couple of years ago when they just managed to make the finals.

Shooters: Geelong expect them to bounce back after a bad year and the addition of Hawkins is a real bonus to them. Hawthorn if not this year that certainly next year. Irrespective of their coach, their accumulation of young talent (especially their talls) are the best in the league, and it's only a matter of time before that really starts to show on the scoreboard. Essendon - purely because Lloyd is back and their losing margins last year were very narrow (plus the pick ups in the drafts inc Gumbleton and Mal Michael can only add depth). Not saying any will win a premiership (certainly not saying that about Essendon) but they will improve.

Sliders: Collingwood appears most vulnerable, have cut adrift some deadwood and Malthouses message must be wearing thin by now. They have a favourable draw (as always) but someone has to miss out from last years eight and they are the most obvious. Sydney maybe...they are so well coached and professional and have an awesome homeground advantage but windows of opportunity don't last forever and they have played 2 grand finals in a row.

Still wouldn't be the least surprised if all these predictions prove wrong this year...

Good summary, I agree with all of that.

Are we all believing or just hoping the Scum fall on their swords? ;D

Shooters and sliders, eh? Well, I know it's early but I'm on holidays. I'll have one of each and a pint of Guinness, thanks, barkeep.

And the Poise must fall.

Cheers.

It's one thing to drink the bastard, the fun part is trying to keep the slimy raw oyster down. Bloody things remind me of them big green gollies that get stuck in the back of your throat when you have the flu.
