After all we won our first game, after finishing wooden spooners we were outplayed by 2 of last years top 4 teams. The saints layed down after being 38 in front and got beat by 37. Like us there forward line is not functioning well . the 3 talls up there for them is not working. Gehrig looks finished, Kosi is inconsistant and injury prone, Reiwoldts kicking can be as bad as Richo's.
Even if we get beat for the next 4-5 games, to steal Dean Baily's catchcrye, "lets just be competative". No major blowouts please mr wallace.
No more Tivvers,Hyde or Petts barring injury for the rest of the year.
I'd give Bowdo one last chance this week, give him first shot at Pavlich and if he doesn't play well, back to Coburg as well.
People can put up with a bit of pain as long as the kids are being played.
Hopefully over the next 6 weeks the kids will be permanately introduced into the team, firstly Jack and Cleve, then Connars and Edwards, then cogs and Cotchin, with Mcguane Cass and Rance to be given a game as the season progresses.
Some big decisions will be made at seasons end and the rfc will be better for it.
We may have some extra early picks at seasons end. maybe 2 and 5 and with alot of room in the salary cap, we may land a big fish in the psd(heres hoping anyway)
I reckon with Wallace we stick fat with him as long as he plays the kids. There is hope over the horizon!

Sorry Richard - the Saints have nowhere near the problems we have. Even though they are slow and can't get an organised forward line, they have so much more upside than we do.

Wind the clock forward, in 1-2 years we have at least got some promising kids on our list. The saints haven't had an early pick for a few years, with a few injuries there depth will be tested over the next few years. I think they are starting to flatline now and they will start to go backwards over the next few years. We have at least a bit to look forward to when the decision is made to go 'kids' for the next few years.

The Aints are hugely overrated IMO. We'll see what unfolds..

but yes we have plenty more issues.

Cant say I rate the saints that much either ToO. Thomas wasted that team and I suspect Lyon wont amount to much. It's probably all Butterss and Thomas deserved!

I really hope some of these kids come on but I get a horrible feeling that we will have wasted some great potential talent through poor development and culture. I really hope you're right because I hate St Kilda as much as I hate Carton and Collingwood.

And still way better than us :'(

Unfortunately yes Jason Blake they are but they will not win the premiership and will be lucky to make the eight IMO.

Everyone got carried away about their pre-season form and we all know that's no guide but they have a heap of recycled hacks that wouldn't be on many other teams lists and a couple of hasbeens. Sure they have a sprinkling of genuine stars but the bottom half of their list is rank and full of rubbish.

Watching Lyon on the podium after the NAB cup I couldn't help but notice the smirk on his face.
His biggest mistake IMO is that he still thinks they are a genuine shot at the title and has topped up with duds when really he should be right in the middle of a full scale rebuild.
Reminds me a lot of Frawley circa 2001 actually. I think that they are miles away from it.

they still have quality like Armitage and McEvoy to come into the side

saints arent flag material but they are miles in front of us

During our only outing thus far this year against them they played an understrength side full of kids. They looked a hell of a lot better than ours. Yes it may have been just the preseason cup but where is the form difference between then and now for the tigers. The brightside goes on about the potential of our kids, so far there has been very little to prove that they as a group are anything special (despite Millers self-serving BS comparing them to North in the early 1990s). Add to that our developement issues in general and the Saints have very little to envy us about.

Round four this week.

Wouldn't be wise to write orff the Saints for the season any more that it would to have written off the Dawgs at 1/4 time on Friday.

And the same applies to Richmond.
