In simple terms yes. You can easily cut a roughie if he doesn't come off but he costs an arm and a leg if he comes off at another club and then you want to pick him up.

Its like buying a lotto ticket, you do have to be lucky to win, but you are not going to get lucky if you didn't take the ticket.

Give ourselves every chance of getting the next James Hird I say.

Money is the obvious problem, Bill.

Agree we should have as full a list as we can afford, including rookies.

PS. We might already have the next James Hird, initials B.D. ;)

In an ideal word yes but we've been hamstrung financially and not able to afford a full list.

Be nice but i think part of the AFL agreement to guarantee our $2.8 M overdraft last year was a reduction in our salary levels until we get our debt to acceptable levels.

So that means if the first 30 players go to fielding your team all year we have 8 players we are punting Essendon has 12. That says they are 50% more likely than us to turn up a good player.

Cut the senior players salaries and fill up the list, if they don't like it trade them for draft picks, we are not going to win a premiership for a couple of years anyway by which time some of the high paid players will be retired.
