Should this be in the Game for a Laugh section?

hopefully we can see some quality delivery in the last years of his career from bling, lids, meyer etc. it'll be great for the big man and add a season or 2 to his career not having to bend down to pick balls up from his ankles and having to run back after seeing the ball fly over his head time and time again from the boots of hacks like tivendale

...and don't forget Pettifer, he has a big future at the club.

If he continues to improve I can see him as Captain in a couple of years.

I did a consistency comparison the other day when comparing Fevola with Richo and other forwards.  When it came to consistency of kicking goals from week to week lloyd was excellent.  This year he only managed equal 6th highest goals per game with 2.95 goals per game (same as Richo), 2nd in 2004 with 4 goals per game, 1st in 2003 with 4.23, 4th in 2002 with 2.93.  What's most impressive is he rarely goes completely missing.  In all the games he has played over the last 4 years, he has only not scored in a match 3 times.  To me that means his opponent always has to be accountable.

I know Lloyd has been maligned as soft and a bit of an actor, but its hard to argue with his statistics.  Can he inspire as captain?  Kicking goals at critical times can be great inspiration.  Question is who else would you make Essendon captain?

Cheers

his productivity has been on the decline slowly as the bummers' midfield gets worse by the year. no misiti, mercuri hird soon. for a long time he had unbelievable service from a quility on ballers. what will he be like with delivery like richo has recieved for the last 10 years? i doubt he would be in the same ballpark for productivity relative to delivery.

Well naturally when finishing lower and less opportunities you will not do as well, but even this year from a consistency point of view, Lloyd has done well to keep the scoreboard busy every match. Previous two years Essendon finished 8th and 8th so the team hardly setting the world on fire, yet Lloyd has finished 1st and 2nd for average goals scored per game. Whilst passing of the ball into forward line is very important, you cant under-estimate the quality of a player to provide good leads which force a player to kick to you ie leading straight towards a player rather than laterally.

Whilst Richo has played in a poor team, he has in the past often led sideways which makes it very hard to pinpoint passes to. That's not taking anything away from Richo, he is a great player but a very different player to Lloyd. My comparison wasnt even so much between Lloyd and Richo, but forwards and Lloyd in general. in fact Richo is probably not the best comparison because he has played alot of his time half-forward as opposed to a true full-forward position.

Cheers

richo was just an example for a comparison between 2 players that recieve different service from their respective midfields. as the quality of ball coming in becomes less so does the productivity. there is corellation between the 2 anyway you look at it.

ps richo often leads sideways because after the first and second lead he is forced to as the ball carrier always stop and prop and run around in circles because they are not confident of hitting him on the chest

Good one Good One!  Well thought through!  Not a Lloydy fan but you gotta respect the outcomes produced, if not the man!

Agree, and would add that Lloyd has had the added benefit of Lucas for 200+ games and 350+ goals as a #2 key forward to assist on the forward line.

i think you are being harsh on the big man. maybe you only ever see his 3rd lead? ::)

just a thought... llllllllLLLLLLLoyd should have some new stats added to his game, dives... dives for and against, contested and uncontested dives, dives inside 50, dive ball gets, and finally... the best known one, goals from dives. :cutelaugh

I can see it now, Lloyd winning the toss then going to the Ump 'Ummm can you hang on a minute I forgot which way we wanted to kick, let me go ask Hirdy which way we want to kick' :hihi

Or, when he wins a toss, he'll throw a bit of grass in the air to see which way the wind is blowing................ :hihi
