PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

This post isn't a comment on the club not requiring Andrew Kellaway's services next season.  Most people would know how upset I am about that but it's their call and I (begrudgingly) respect that.  It's about how the situation should be handled.

I can't help but think the conflicting reports are doing Andy and his family a great disservice and they deserve to be treated with more dignity than they have.

We started the media speculation by announcing Andy was invited to play a possible farewell game in Rd 22.  Since then there have been a heap of conflicting reports that make me feel there is a communication breakdown within the club and the situation has been handled poorly in the media.

Terry made it clear last night that he didn't see a spot for Andy and that Andy felt differently. He gave his reasons for giving Gas a contract rather than Andy There have been statements about club officials in effect saying Andy hasn't been shown the door.  Greg has said that we won't be using Andy as trade bait, and he's also said we probably won't find out the situation until the list deadline several weeks away.  Paul is being asked questions but what's been discussed is between Andy and Terry.  Nixon has said that Andy has informed him he's not required at Tigerland next year and to put out feelers for a spot at other clubs.

It's an absolute mess. A media circus that's upsetting fans and causing plenty of discussion.  The thing that concerns me is in the middle of it all is the Kellaway family who are stalwarts of our club and don't deserve to have all this speculation going on.  No two players could ever have given more of themselves to the RFC than Duncan and Andrew.

Do people think they deserve some consideration from the club and that the situation should be clarified to end the conflicting reports and guess work?

I'd love to see Terry and Andrew give an amicable, joint press conference.  What worries me if things keep dragging out we might alienate one of the most respected family dynasties at Tigerland.

We had a press conference just to announce Richo was dropped to Coburg for a week.  Surely we can have one to put this matter to rest once and for all?  As an ALL Australian player and a club best and fairest winner it’s the least we can do to give the family some peace.
