Should we trade Brown?

You need to appreciate the effect Brown has on the team. When he came back from injury most recently the team had a definite improved confidence about themselves. We are a more confident unit with Brown. He is experienced, highly skilled and switched on - the older players feel stronger with him around and the younger ones would idolise him. The team rises with Nathan in it. Given overall we are still trying to find our feet as a team (youth injection, rebuild) his single ability to bond the group is critical. To trade him would be a major backward step.
Caged tiger. if we need browny to give us confidence on the field we are very very fragile indeed. Nathan foley needs noone to make him think he can run straight lines, neither does jake king.
Please....no more psychobabble.
Its a game for men with attitude. Put simply , the more we have of this type of player, the better we become.

Where have you been achilles. We are very fragile. Friday went a way to hardening that external exterior however we have a long way to go to build a self belief. Anything as silly as discarding Wallace or trading a Brown or a Richo would send as into an ugly downward spiral.

Surely you of all people should understand the shortcomings of vulnerable points. How is that heal of yours anyway?

If we can get a top 10 draft pick we'd have to trade Dr Pink.

If we seriously want to become a regular Top 4 Contender we need to take the Hawthorn model: drafting tougher young midfielders and key position players, while at the same time trading older players that can fetch 1st Round Draft Picks (they did it with Thompson, Jade Rawlings, Hay & originally with Croad- then got him back on the cheap).

And its not just the Draft Pick we'd be getting, think about what we could do with Browny's extra 600K next season?

One much talked about idea that Greg Miller must already be considering if he's this "Recruiting Guru":

Use Browny's money to offer Travis Cloke (out of contract end of this year) $100K more than Collingwood could ever afford to pay him. Agree, he'd be way over paid at around $450K but it would be worth it to secure any player who's considered a possible All Australian CHF. I hate to say it, but at this stage he looks to be a better player than Schulz, Hughes or Riewoldt will ever be.

If the extra money isn't enough to tempt Travis Cloke's Manager (a certain mustached father in a Mike's Hard Lemonade T-Shirt :hihi) we could definitely convince the family by also offering to give Jason Cloke a 2nd chance. Considering his dedication and training at the Bendigo Bombers (just ask coach Matty Knights) Jason would be good enough to take up a spot on our list as a back up defender. Its not like we haven't wasted a spot on a token brother before.....hey, just give him Patrick Bowden's spot. ;D

And the best thing is Collingwood couldn't do a thing about it, if they don't want to deal with us we can just take Travis with the 1st Pick in the Recycled Draft anyway.

I know it would start a war similar to what we had with Collingwood in the 80's (which in a round about way has probably got us to this current state), but its worth thinking about non the less. The Scumbags would be dirtier than they were Friday night if we could pull it off!

What do you think?

Over my dead body.

Jason Cloke or Patrick Bowden...hmmm, a recently delisted dud vs a guy working his way back to fitness who brings largely impeccable disposal skills, great hands, a footy brain and the ability to let Polak man up for a change (or even go forward, see how effective that was on Friday night?).

With McGuane and Thursfield showing signs, Pat could be used on the wing, in the forward line, or as a third man up down back, with the same effectiveness that he did last year. And you want to replace him with Jason Joke?

Over my dead body.

Jason Cloke or Patrick Bowden...hmmm,

Just trying to look at the bigger picture Skybeau.

Another Top 10 pick + Travis Cloke + Jason Cloke + Atleast $150K extra pa to share around wisely (Maybe put Foley or Lids on a scaling down contract, give them more now while we're crap than in 3yrs when we're struggling to keep all the kids- similar to what Hawks have down with Hodge).

In return for: Browny & Patrick Bowden.

Something to think about.

Stats and history should never be allowed to take over the emotion around success and dreams. Brownie is the real, real, real deal.
He gives the players, the club, and us supporters the X factor that has been missing for many years.

Ok, here's the bigger picture. There is no way Trav Cloke will leave, or be allowed to leave Lexus Park. Even if we had bucketloads of cash, there are much better players that we could be throwing money at.

Besides, Trav Cloke's performance on Friday when he wasn't getting towelled by Thursty was diabolical. Notice how Thursty was one of the key movers out of the back and seemed to be always free? That's because Trav showed less commitment to chase than a blind one-legged midget. If you believe Micky Mouse's explanation, Trav was tired. We've already got one forward who's defensive pressure isn't too crash hot (sorry Jay)...why bother with another?

I'll stick with Hughes and Riewoldt personally. See where they're at after a few years. And I'll keep Brown. The benefit of having Brown on the field for the next few years far outweighs any special goals he kicks OR a combination of Trav Cloke's kicking yips, another top ten flanker languishing at Coburg and Jason Cloke running around in everyone's way.

Surley N.B with a good finish to this season and a good pre season will see him (after K J stands down from the captaincy to concentrate on his own game) Leading our young guns to for the next two years while Cogs ,Axel, and Lids sort out who wants to lead the MIGHTY TIGERS to their next PREMIERSHIP :cupgold :cupgold

Having Browny as captain next season would be a major backwards step for the club. He's a great player, but not an onfield leader. Foley right now is eons in front of Brown for the captaincy, although Foley may be a bit young. He's our definate future captain.

Travis Cloke to come to the RFC? You've gotta be joking.
