Simmo and Sir Les- Ruck Duo of the Stars

Pretty sure that was kingy scoop

They both shanked one out on the full.

Patto's was to the oppsite side of King's. King was going across the ground and Patto was kicking forwards out of the defensive 50.

Do you mean we need to develop one of the giants on the list or do we need another?

We do already have two 200cm+ in guys in Coburg and another at 199cm.

We need either one of the Coburg boys or some other 200cm+ knock ruck specialist to enter & perfrorm within the team.

Actually think that Simmonds has improved this area too.

No more jumping to the side and going for a tap, he is jumping into the chest and body. Looking to get the hit out and to get a second go at the ball while the other guy is off balance.

Pattison is a ground player, likes to get it out. His kicking is sub par. No bones about it. Shanked another easy kick on SUnday out of the full. If he kicking was a little better I would say he is on target for a ppor mans Ben Hudson type AFL life. BUt his kicking is always going to limit his life span in the AFL.

Yeah, SCOOP, Simmonds, like pretty much all our 30yos, finally seemed to be free of cobwebs on Sunday. Four rounds in. I thought it might take another week or two. And he played the new style game on Sunday and played it well.

Newman's inside 50s have improved this year. But they're usually below standard. His first one on Sunday was a genius goal. A welcome change to see him taking the shots at last, credit to all. But his second one was even worse than usual. Out on the full.

So Newman and Pattison are about even in out on the fulls this year. Which one can't kick? ;D

Point is the can't kick stuff is too much about reputation. In 08 Patto will have had half the turnovers of the other bloke from a similar number of possessions with far more of his contested. And the other bloke is a genius by reputation.

And Pattison is already of a suitable standard to play change ruck in a premiership team. I'm not even going to bother to list the duds who've done it.

Can he become a strike ruckman? Last year I'd have said million to one.

But Patto's general disposal levels have improved to adequate IMO if he can continue to improve in other areas. And bear in mind that he had a poor game by his 08 standards on Sunday. After another three weeks of carrying one of our best players.

And Pattison's kicking is classes better than Hudson's already, SCOOP. It was better last year.

As you've rightly noted Pattison is a ground player who can get a clearance. That's handy because this is where the game is won.

It's Pattison's ability to go from hopelessly out of position at a ground contest to knocking over all the smalls and dishing to our small that sets him apart ATM. It's gamebreaking stuff because all the bad guys are lying on the ground. They're out of position now. We're clear and clear is real hard to get these days.

So what if Pattison starts strolling into packs with Ling, Bartel, Sugar and Tuck in them, knocking them all over and dishing the ball to Deledio or Axel? Will it really matter if he only kicks it out on the full as often as Newman?
And kicks more goals?

It's how his inside game evolves that matters for Pattison. Because he's one of these new fashioned clearance ruckmen.

Does he tap the ball to advantage? Not much. It's not the fashion anyway. He has to stop the other bloke tapping it to advantage and force the spill to the side we're planning or spontaneously to advantage. If he can get it he handballs to the RH front corner of the square. Simmonds did the handball thing on Sunday. Hudson does it. Even Minson has this year. It's the new form of the old twenty metre punch. Or to a runner who he's clearing a path for.

We'll get to compare Patto and Ben Hudson this weekend. Our rucks to theirs. I'm really looking forward to this one. Hopefully our boys can do the job despite giving away a considerable size advantage.

Stop with your argument Jack, you’re making my head hurt.

Patto has a awkward kicking motion when he was 18, and he once put a ball out on the full. Thus he can’t kick and can’t play AFL. End of story.

SCOOP's a student, Colonel. He's got his reasons. And Pattison's use by foot this year has surprised every body. And is by no means guaranteed to continue.

He'll humiliate me for defending him and probably soon. ;D

But once any aspect of a player's game becomes legend the facts don't matter.

I love legend and facts equally. So I'm trying to keep them separate.

Patto IMO is one of several players who have shown big improvement in their weaknesses in the off-season. A credit to the panel.

I know, forgive me, I’m in a bad mood this morning.

I have noticed that Patto’s ball drop in noticeable better lately. It’s still not great, but you can’t make a cup of tea anymore in-between the time he first decides to kick and when his foot contacts with leather. I have the same problem, and it’s impossible to fix unless you really, really work at it, I never have.

I would now describe his kicking motion as ‘serviceable’, and his hand passing as pretty good. Which is all you need really need from your ruckman.

Missed Patto,s little kick to Lids advantage Col? ;D

Sorry, I’ve only watched the game once yet, with some distraction going on, help me out- was it good or bad?
