Small forward?

I think the Nathan Brown, Brad Johnson, Alan Didak types that can create through the middle as well when required are the ideal small forwards.

Agree the Krak debate has proved that.

Would rather a midfielder who can kick goals then a small forward who can pinch hit in the midfield.

That debate is over.

It's been mentioned on the Krakouer thread recently by some posters that given his apparent deficiencies aerobically, they see AK as Richmond's specialist small forward in '07.

With the departure of Rodan, the candidates for such a role aren't many at all and seems to come down to:

Krakouer 174cm - Most likely

Tambling 181cm - More effective up the field

Meyer 183cm - Unproven

Brown 183cm - Uncertain

Of those players Krak is significantly the smallest and would seem most suited to such a crumbing role. The negatives are his obvious limitations given his inability to switch onto the ball effectively for sustained periods and his apparent lack of pace. On the positive side he has strengths in his ability to trap the ball, apply pressure and bring other players into the game. He also has a reasonable goal sense although his kicking accuracy is average.

My questions really are these:

Should we be looking to draft another small forward with a late draft pick?

Does the modern game allow the luxury for such a one dimensional role as a specialist crumbing forward?

Who do you see as the best current player on the RFC list to fulfill such a role if it's required at all?

you missed out the ferals favorite small forward pettrified at 183cm. why the hell would we be looking at specialist small forwards when we have brown pettifer krakouer unless of course you are suggesting we arent getting enough out of those players, and you would be right. there is no way we can play all 3 in a team unless one or 2 of them can make a significant contribution onball. i really hope tambling and meyer take the next step in 07 so we can do away with duds like pettrified and krapouer.
in answer to question 2 there is no place for a one dimensional small forward unless he is exceptional and then you would only play one that one to me is browny. in answer to 3 nathan brown is the best current player to fulfil such a role.

Thanks Claw for addressing the questions. Believe it or not I actually agree with a lot of what you say here. :o :hihi

Less concerned with Petts output because he has improved his aerobic fitness and is covering significantly more territory the last two years but that in turn has affected his goalkicking abilities.

Bling and Meyer must increase their scoring capacity to put pressure on Krakouer's tenuous position.

It would be a massive understatement to say Browny's recovery is crucial to our fortunes next season.

the rover who can rest in the goals and kick a few is gold. But they have to be dead sure certain bets. They will always be available from WA and the NT in the third or latter rounds of the draft.

Plus some kids need to be taught the smarts of playing the position.

Have you actually been watching any Richmond games over the last two years Claw?
Surely even someone as biased against Pettifer as you might just possibly have noticed that he spends quite a lot of time as a link player running between the half back and half forward flanks ( I think they used to call them wingmen) creating options for our defenders to clear from the backline and also feeding in to our key forwards.
None so blind as those that will not see.
