So where is our next Forward coming from?

No schulz, Hughes or Richardson to play in the KPF, Vickery has looked very ordinary, Post was recruited for defence but possibly could go forward, Gourdis ????.

What a ridiculous statement. Give him a few more games before drawing a line through him hey??

IMO he did a few things on Sat night that showed he has a bright future, although way too early to know either way.

He was recruited as a future ruckman, not specifically a forward, would be a bonus if he could eventually go forward and kick goals as well. At least he showed to me he can mark.

Right.

A club that is in need of a severe rebuild, is to have a 34 year old centre-half forward and a 32 year old full forward.
We cant just play young inexperieced developing players in key positions. Lets say we nurse Richo like Robert Harvey and get two more seasons out of him, sign Hall when he pulls his head in and play these two alongside the younger talls. When these two retire the younger talls are ready to step up with 60-70 games under their belt. If theres no blend of Youth and experience the developing youngsters will get flogged and thats no good for the Players,Supporters,Club. Its got to be a balancing act between out with the old and in with the new.

I wouldn't be looking out a ruck or a key defender this year other than in the rookie draft.

Agree on the ruck aspect, I think a project ruck should be on the rookie list every/most years. Even if you don't need them they can have some serious trade value for clubs that do. Melbourne did this well under CC.

Key defender I would be happy to take in the ND in the right circumstance. This year the talls apparently are not overtly inspiring and it may come down to a tall defender being a better prospect than tall forward in later rounds.

First pick will have to be on best available which will probably be a mid which we need anyway, it might be tricky for us to get our key forward in this year's draft. :(

Weve got the developing talls for ruck positions and weve got the developing tall forwards potential key position forwards CHF FF. We need established key position players now untill the kids have 40,50,60 games under their belt. By then our senior players will be ready to retire. The timing of this changeover is important. These developing forwards should be in pockets or flanks not in key positions up against the best and hardest while under the pump. Tall ruckman have always taken longer to develope than smaller quicks thats always been a fact of life. Richo nursed like Harvey could get two more seasons and Hall 2-3 as well That locks up the forward line With a tall developing Forward like Morton on a flank and the other Reiwoldt on opposite pocket with smalls in other pocket and flank giving a balance of Youth and experience and Height and speed also giving ruck rovers and rovers a resting position. ie Hf Morton Richo Cousins FF Nahas Hall Riewoldt. Sort the Key position Centre Square out R,RR,R,C then sort out a solid forward line then recruit a career full back pushing our fill in onto pockets and flanks and we are off. We as a side are 3-4 key established players away from top 8.
A Ruckman, A Full Back and a FF or CHF alternating-working with Richo too easy.

I am hoping on getting the priority pick and using it or our 2nd rounder (or both) on tall forwards
I have no clue as to where the kids will go this year but it sounds like Talia will be inbetween our picks
Am keen on him and sounds like Griffiths goes alright also

What are our chances with these 2 being there at picks 18-20?

Other question is what other teams are after tall forwards
Off the top of my head
Sydney - Grundy, did get Lewis Johnston last year but will prolly be after another
Carlton - Fev is only getting older, Kreuzer, Setant, Waite not much after that
Hawks - Not after a forward but could look to turn one into a backman
Essendon - unlikely but Lloyd and Lucas getting on, Neagle, Gumby, might want another
WB - would prolly rather a ready made one, Grant, Cordy, can't think of anyone else?
Freo - Need one bad, after Superman they are pretty bare, Murphy, McPharlin

IMO it is critical that we finish below Freo as we will have 1 maybe 2 picks before them in the 2nd round to nab 1 or 2 talls

My dream:
Somehow get a first round pick (9-11)
Get the PP

Pick 3
Trengove

Pick 9-11
Talia

Pick 18
Gysberts

Pick 20
Griffiths

Just like to point out that I know nothing bout the juniors ;)
My guess is that if it is what I want then it aint gonna happen

hmm lets see. assuming we have picks 3 17 19 35 51 67 83 pick 2 or 3 psd 3 rookie picks.
assuming the type fits the pick ie say a kpf at 17 is close to best available and deserving of a pick at 17.
on list proper 0ff list proper
3 best available probably onballer. johnson
17 kpf polak
18 kpd bowden
35 mid jon
51 kpf hughes
67 onballer pettifer
83 kpf pattison
psd ruckman 24 25 yo simmonds
nahas rookie promoted king
browne rookie promoted putt to rookie list. wont need to do this if we get a 24 yo ruckman

rookies
1 kpf 195+
2 kpd 195+ silvestor
3 small defender.
4 putt ruckman
5 gourdis kpf
6 gilligan sml forward.

leaves a tall structure that goes like this
5 ruckmen graham, vickery, browne, 24 25yo, putt rookie. 1 new. off simmonds.
9 kpfs richo, post, riewoldt, schulz, rookie gourdis. 4 new. picks 17 51 83, 1 rookie. off 3 pattison polak hughes.
5 kpds mcguane, thursfield, rance, pick 18. 1 rookie. 2 new picks 18 and rookie. off silvestor.
19 talls over all a few more than ideal but takes into account richos age, schulz being contracted, and the odd kpf not making it.

added to this you get 3 new mids/onballers one who should be top shelf and 1 sml defender.
of course you can change it and vary the type of player taken with each pick im just giving an example of what can be done without neglecting any area of the list.
yep personally id be looking at all types.
