Some good news

Injury list as of April 7 2008:

Mark Coughlan (Knee) Available
Trent Cotchin (Achilles) Available!!!!!
Angus Graham (Hip) test
Andrew Raines (Knee) 2 weeks
Danny Meyer (Hip) TBA

:pooh

Coughlan - Knee ??

i thought it was his hamstring.

Great to hear Cotchin is playing.

I also don't think it will be bad for Raines to come back through the Burgers after he gets over his knee to get some practice at winning a lot of midfield ball. Like Foley he should have to force his way into the side through outstanding performances in the reserves. The "good" thing about an injury is that there is no stigma about getting a run at Coburg when you are coming back from it and with a bit of luck he'll survive a few bouts of leather poisoning. Here's hoping anyway.

"Football fitness, I would say (it will take) half-a-dozen weeks. If a normal player will have one practice game prior to the NAB Cup and four or five games through the NAB Cup competition, he hasn't done the pre-season at all and it would be unfair to think he would be any more than six weeks. He probably thinks he is two (weeks away).''

So based on what TW said today I would'nt expect to see Trent running around for RFC until round 10 at the earliest.

And general thought is he will play half a game for Coburg 2nds and not the seniors (people need to remember Coburg are also trying to win games and cannot affort to have a guy sitting on the pine for half a game).

good to see cogs ready to play some footy at last. geez i hope he comes back as good as ever and stays injury free. the pragmatist in me says otherwise though.

good to see gus close as well i know i shouldnt but i have high hopes for this lad.

connors edwards cogs and cotchin sounds good anyway. cotchin wont play fro richmond for awhile though. lets get him match fit and mid yr give him as many games as he can handle.

Nice positive post there claw, I like it :)

Hopefully Connors gets up to speed soon, looked terribly unfit on the ABC game the other week. Was still decent though.

I'm not too glum because despite the crap the tigers are dishing up, for the first time in ages I can see a team with a future.

In the past, there would be many 'middle' players (middle in age and skills) - guys like Andy Kellaway, Chaff, Tiv who, at their best, could play some good games but weren't blessed with a lot of talent. These teams got 'topped up' with slightly older versions of the same - eg Sziller. Young 'Talent' was no where to be seen. The hope for the future was based on a bunch of middle players 'finding something extra' or having an exceptional year.

I look at the list now and I can almost see a team with a lot more potential that most teams in the past 25 years - a team that could have a serious crack in a couple of years. Some names are pretty speculative (Rance, Cass, Cotch) but - with the exception of Cogs - it is a team with their best in front of them:

B King Rance WillyT
HB Cass ? Newman (c)
C Tambling Cogs Lids
HF Morton Hughes Edwards
FF Connor ? Reiwoldt
R Natanui Cotch Foley
Int: Patto ? ?

The main two holes, for mine, are CHB and an aggressive tall for the forward line (Maybe Gourdris or Putt will do something special?).

And this is what Terry should be perservering with. Or something close to it. Instead he plays zero kids from the past 3 drafts.

My team as soon as fitness allows would be -

B. King..........Thursfield......Rance
HB. Moore.......Schulz..........Casserly
C. Cotchin.....Cogs............Newman
HF. Morton......Pattison......Connors
FF. Brown........Hughes.....Riewoldt
R. Simmonds....Deledio......Foley
Int. Graham....Tambling.....Edwards....Bowden

Good mix of class, experience and youth. Only 3 players with limited long term futures in Bowden, Brown and Simmonds. Also no hacks.

More importantly 7 players from the past 3 drafts will ensure enough new blood and new talent is introduced and developed and will give the fans a sense of optimism even when we lose, instead of seeing the same old mistakes being performed by the same old players.

A team line-up like this would definately see Terry's contract reach the end of the 5th year.

That looks a very good round 1 team next year and would go alright later this year as well. Would hate to be telling Richo he's not in the team !
So what do we do with Raines,Petts and Tucky? Keep them for depth at Coburg, or trade them for better picks later in the year?

It has been said by the 2 spin doctors that R F C will not go to Perth this weekend .
They cannot play good football without Pitifull in the side , so this week has been canceled.

Miller said Cotch is playing ‘Burg ones this week.

[insert comment here about keeping expectations low, not too much pressure yadda yadda]
